I've got an 870P that I'm planning on installing a single point sling plate to. The only problem is that I can't quite figure out how to get the recoil pad off. It has two small holes in the pad (top and bottom of the "face") which should correspond to screws, but there doesn't seem to be anything at the bottom of the holes. Any advice?

buzz:

At the bottom of those little hole(s) are Phillips Head screw(s).

Using a #2 Phillips Head screwdriver, lubricate the shank with a little CLP or WD40, or heck, even liquid soap will work in a pinch (not my first choice), then insert the screwdriver in the hole and push down until you hit 'bottom' and twist out the screw(s)!!

"usually" There are two #2 Phillips head screws holding it on. One on the top and one on the bottom.

Thank you for the information. This is a wood stock so no glue concerns (thankfully).

Not sure what # phillips to use but on a wood stock the screws (at least on all my 870 stocks) are much larger than the synthetic screws. I use the largest phillips driver that I own and lube it with CLP or Rem Oil or spit if nothing else is available. Your jamming a pretty large screwdriver into a fairly small hole. Too small of a driver will put you at risk for stripping the heads of the screws. You should feel a very positive lock of driver to screw if you're using the correct size.
