A few months ago, I bought a Remington Supercell recoil pad for my Wingmaster despite reading everywhere that the pad for the wooden stocks doesn't fit correctly. They are only $20, and I figured the fitment issues might be overblown. "C'mon, how hard can it really be for the MANUFACTURER of the stock to build a pad that fits it properly," said I. Well, apparently it's pretty hard because the pad did not fit properly. It was too narrow, leaving the stock to overhang the pad by probably 1/16"+ on each side. It's not like this is the end of the world, but I'm sort of a perfectionist and after getting a few unnecessary dings on the stock, I decided to try to make the pad fit. I took it off and cut the plastic backing plate from screw hole to screw hole with a Dremel. I then pried the slit open with a screw driver, and inserted a little wood shim to hold the sides apart and widen the pad. The wood shim is just a hair over 3/16" wide. I slid it back and forth in the slit to get the best fitting contour, and screwed the pad back on. As you can see in the pics, it worked pretty well. The pad is full width now, and matches the contours of the stock surprisingly well. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes.

It does hold some stress in the plastic backing plate, so it might crack eventually. Only time will tell, but it feels solid for now. I've been really happy with the Supercell pad otherwise. It does soak up more recoil than the original hard rubber pad, and best of all, it's slick. The original pad was sticky and would catch on everything but the Supercell just slips right into place. The stickiness was the main reason I wanted to replace the rubber pad, and the Supercell is a huge improvement there.
