I am in the process of modifying my Yugo SKS, and I want to remove the grenade launcher sight and bayonet. The sight is pinned in, I know I will need to either tap out the pin or cut it off. The bayonet is screwed in, and I have tried casually to remove it, and I couldn't get the screw to turn. Am I a wuss, is it loc-tited in and I will have to put it in a vise and get creative, or should I just dremel it out as well?

It's usually a screw that has the end opposite the head peened. Grind off the peen, use a correctly fitting screwdriver, and twist the screw out. Could be a rivet also, I've never owned a Yugo SKS. In that case, just grind off the head and use a punch.

Commies didn't believe in loktite. That's a invention of the decadent West.

The Yugo bayonet retaining screw has two "Peens" on the threads that keeps it from backing out. You will have to get real physical with it to remove the screw. I used a 1/4" ratchet with the proper size flat screw driver blade, you might have to use a dremel grinder to clear up the thread area.

Well, I pulled out the Dremel and had a party. :)

I cut off the lugs where the bayonet connects, and cut off and beveled the stubs, I ground them down as far as I could without nicking the pin that holds the front sight assembly on.

The sight was less complicated, I made cuts at the corner near the pin it swings on, It pulled right off, and the locking pin and spring fell right out. I cut off and smoothed over the pins that held it in.

I learned, the carbide cutting wheel that was on the dremel when I started wasn't the right tool for the job. Just regular cutting wheels work much better. I made a few sloppy nicks, but I don't reallyt care, I am duracoating the whole rifle in ACU pat, and this is a 'get dirty' rifle anyway. :)
