I have an older knife that has a broken blade and I was hoping someone could point me toward how it could be repaired? Its mechanism is quite rough and there's some rust/corrosion on the metal.
short of paying someone to take it apart, secure replacement blade (donor knife, or god forbid a blade made from scratch) and clean it up, none of which will be cheap... couple options (and ive done these a few times) is thoroughly flush the knife with hot water and dish soap, working the action, see what kinda crud comes out. it should improve
dry it completely, then oil it. You can also do an oil or wd-40 flush instead of the water.
000 steel wool to remove rust and crud (not too aggressive but works well)
You could regrind a blade profile, your gonna lose quite a bit but you can get a point back, however you do this make sure you dont get it so hot you cant touch it or else youll screw up the Heat Treat, i usually lower the spine side to avoid over heating the existing edge...
It could still be usuable, just a matter of how much it means to you to rehab a busted up knife... Ive done this on a few both sentimental and just cause i felt sorry for the poor thing
Whatever you decide best of luck to ya
