Hey guys, I'm thinking of trading my KelTec PF9 for my buddies Ruger LCP. My PF9 functions perfectly (now) but I'm having some rust issues in the slide serrations and the area surrounding the hammer on the back of the slide. The finish has been pretty crappy on the thing since I bought it...

I'm wondering, with that being the case, if I should just send the slide to KelTec to let them fix it, or if it's an easy enough fix for a newb like myself. Also, some re-bluing would be involved on the rails from where I had to file down a burr. I have some bluing paste, but I've never tried using it before. I'm a little afraid of making it look worse to be honest. What do you guys think?

Well I definitely want to get it fixed before the trade, that's not the question. To clarify, I'm wondering what the best way of getting it fixed is and if anyone has some tips on doing it myself

Your only going to get $75-$100 for a used PF9 on trade so go ahead on use a little steel wool and cold blue on the wear areas and clean and lightly oil the gun. It may get you slighty more on a trade. You can get new pf9 for $229 right now and a shop would sell yours for a $150-$175

I'd send it in but I'd ask your buddy if he wants to pay the difference for a hard chrome or parkerized finish first. If K-T "replaces" the slide then those options are available.

Check out K-TOG someone over there offers to hard chrome slides for I believe $35.00....
Hard to beat, plus it pretty much takes care of any rust problems on that little pistol.

^^^ True, that. I'd completely forgotten about that option. And, from what I've read, that guy's satin finish is nicer than K-T's.

That's interesting on the chroming... Never though of that as an option. I'll let him know about it for sure.
I went ahead and just hit the thing with some steel wool and carb cleaner and put a few coats of bluing on the whole slide. I don't know why I was thinking it was going to be hard, it was a piece of cake, and it came out looking better than when I bought it.
