I really heavy cover I could be harder to use then the 4 power. But I used a k6 for a good number of years, my normal hunting is along farm fields over looking woods. The wood are not to think I can still get a 100-150 shot.
Going up from 4x on a 243win would be all upside for me. 4x is rarely high enough for my use, even at short ranges measured in feet. I don’t like FPO’s at all, but if I were in a spot to replace a 4x with a 6x, I would have no heartburn.
I have fixed 6X target scopes on a couple of rifles that I use for punching paper at the range. They've worked for me out to 600 yards. But for most of the hunting I do they would be a disadvantage. Finding a deer in the scope as it moves through thick brush at 30 yards 25 minutes prior to sunup.
I can see where some would like them some regions of the country. I see you're in AZ. Might be a good option there.
I don't have one on a hunting rifle, not yet anyway, but I'm beginning to think a 1-6X24 scope is about ideal. I'd be good for quick snap shots at 15 yards and still able to hit at 400-500 if I had to.
Same here, a fixed 6x for hunting in the woods would not be a good idea, where I want 2 or 3x max for the low number. I had a 2.5-8 on my .308 for decades, and now it has a 2-10. I want a wide FOV for hunting in the woods.
After sighting in I verified it with these two shots at 100 yards using 2x.
