Replacing staked-on Glock front sight?

I just picked up an apparently NOS (New, old stock) 2nd Gen Glock 19. Came from the factory with Meprolight night sights. The front sight is the staked- on variety. Problem is, the gun is old enough that the tritium is starting to dim. I'm not looking at swapping them out tomorrow, or anything, but how involved is removing that staked-on front sight? The factory plastic sights are easy, done probably half a dozen over the years with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Does that work with these? do I need to bend something/drill/grind something/whatever inside the slide?

Well, I have never seen a Meprolite staked on a Glock.
All I have seen used a little bitty hex-head screw to attach it.

If it is staked really good and tight, I would use a Dremel tool with a carbide dental bur to grind the stake away inside the slide enough to get it off.

Then replace it with a sight with the hex-head screw.

I know. I had never seen it,either! Hmmm... if grinding is required, maybe these will last awhile longer. They're not dead, just not as bright as they could be..

No grinding needed if your sight has the hex head screw. the hex head screw will shear off when taken off (if lock tight is used). Most are used with red (stronger) or blue.
If you purchase a new sight it will/should come with a hex head screw, and a wrench to install. very easy to do. Pick up a bottle of locktight at your auto parts store. clean off the area with powder blast or some rubbing/grain/alcohol to get off the oils.
