Hey folks I just aquired a decent Replica Arms Wesson type rifle and wanted to if anyone is still using these? What is the load data for it and correct ram rod length? I have a Mowrey 1N30 I bought new back in the early 90's and this reminds me a little of it. Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Is your Wesson a Palmetto?
A bit of history regarding the Wesson target rifle. In the last letter before his death that Cap. Samuel Walker sent to his brother where he mentions receiving his cased pair of Colt revolvers from Colt, he also mentions receiving a Wesson rifle (presumably from his brother) and that his officer pards were mightily impressed by the Colts and the Wesson. Did he take that Wesson into battle along with his Colts as a sniper rifle instead of a Halls rifle? It is reported that he was obsessed with killing or capturing Santa Ana personally at this time. As an ex Ranger he was crack shot with a rifle and maybe was hoping to bag Santa Ana with it from a distance? What happened to the Wesson after his death? Maybe it got picked up on the battlefield in Mexico along with his Colt sn 1019 with the cylinder from sn 1020 and they're both in some yet undisclosed collection. Quien sabe?

(CAUTION: The following is based on 40-50 years of memory.)

As I recall, the Wesson Rifle imported by Replica, was a fairly lightweight rifle and the twist was appropriate for a PRB. I would imagine your should will tell you when you venture into the too much powder area. For a 45 caliber I would think a 40-60 grain range would be appropriate.

I have a Palmetto Wesson I bought from Dixie about 10 years ago. It is a fine shooter with 1in 24" twist rifling. My biggest complaint is the wicked curved brass butt plate is not made for shooting 400+ grain bullets. newcamera003.jpg

I just passed up a brass scope the other night on Ebay that looked like that. Dixie Gun Works. How do you like it?
I am waiting on some round ball to come so I can see how it shoots. Barrel is clean inside so I don't think it was shot much.
