Anyone know anything about which powder and throw weight is best recommended for replicating the Speer 9mm 124gr Gold Dot Hollow Point Short Barrel [GDHPSB] +P self defense round?

Speer #13 manual shows:
124 grain GD:

HS-7 - 8.9 grains = 1,249
Blue Dot - 7.9 = 1,238
AA #9 - 10.5C = 1,185
Unique - 5.8 = 1,180
AA #7 9.0 = 1,180
Power Pistol - 6.4 = 1,157
It's all down hill from there with the faster powders.

+P & Short-Barrel load data is hard to come by.
And you couldn't get the powder they use anyway.

Thanks for posting the first reply to this thread inquiry, above, which, if I understand you correctly, is for standard loads only?

Too bad. I just ordered 2# of the AA#5 because it replicates the .38 Speer 135gr factory +P SB load so well. Guess it's not particularly recommended for this round, apparently.

So, that leaves Unique in my cache. I don't have the others.

No +P load recommended in the Speer manual, eh, for the 124gr GD?

I don't know of any load manual that lists +P data for the 9mm.

There may be some somewhere, but I don't have any in my library of loading manuals & powder company handouts.

You can replicate velocity w/o the pressure. Try looking at some of Vihtavouri (I dont have powder weights available handily), but Ive been using 3N37 for my "strategic reserve" loads, consisting of Gold Dots and some Sierra powerjacket handloads. They will certainly cook along with that powder.
