I would like to include the following in my reply:

The author also states “… the fact is that people are killing, and they are, oftentimes, using these banned weapons. Giving terrorists, snipers, or hostage takers any easier access to these guns than they already have is not only unnecessary but also unwiseâ€. FBI statistics indicate quite the opposite: crime reports show that a firearm is used in about 7% of all violent crime in this country. Of that entire 7%, 3% was committed with weapons whose configuration was affected by the ban… Meaning that the ban affected weapons that are used in a not-so-staggering twenty-one hundredths of one percent of violent crime in this country.

I've heard these numbers several times, but would just like to verify that they are true, and would like a source to cite... does anyone have one?

It's true. guns banned by the awb are used in ~2-3% of gun crimes. That didn't change during the ban. I'm not 100% sure where to find the exact statistics, but I'm sure someone else knows.
