I received the Harrington number 2 replacement firing pin for the CZ-52 yesterday from Makarov.com. The cost was $45 plus about $3 shipping. I installed it last night. Installation is basically easy but I misread the instructions and popped the detent and spring onto the shag carpet several times. Once I understood what needed to be done, there was no problem. I didn't have to file any parts or use any special tools--except for a straightened out large paperclip. The firing pin would stick in the forward position when I pushed it from the rear and this concerned me. Dryfiring at home gave me the impression that the trigger pull was indeed lightened by replacing the pin.

Today I fired the CZ-52 with the new pin at the range. The best news is that there were no misfires through about five mags. The trigger pull before was poor; now it is mediocre IMO. It is still inferior to the single action triggers on double/single action pistols such as the Astra A-100. My accuracy was a bit better. I still shot left, but not as much as before. I was not as low as before. In fact the shots were almost level with the bullseye. I didn't notice that the trigger was pinching my finger after shots, as before. I also put a drop of hot pink nail polish on the tiny front sight. This definitely helped me to line things up.

Is the new firing pin worth the cost and the loss of the firing pin block? Maybe so. I do believe that my 52 is now more fun to shoot than before--and I do enjoy shooting it.

I also put the nail polish on the front sight of the Luger. The Luger has a great trigger and is very accurate. I think the reliability problems I have been having are being caused by the Mec Gar mags, which seem to sit slightly low in the grip. Hence I have occasional failures of the top round to feed into the chamber. The slide must not be contacting the top round after recoil. I have never had a problem with a Mec Gar mag, so this is something I will have to look into. Maybe there is a fix.

I also fired my Hi-Standard, snub-nose, nine shot .22 mag revolver. Although the trigger is heavy and the sights almost non-existent, this revolver is fun to shoot and I had no misfires.

Thanks for the report. I, too, have a CZ-52 with a terrible trigger. In combination with the liklihood of breaking the firing pin, I was about decided to invest in the upgrade you mentioned. Now I will. Where did you get yours? I thought I saw it at AIM, but can't find it there now.

Badger Arms,

The Harrington firing pin eliminates the firing pin block. I suppose that the with the original firing pin, the trigger must clear this block before pushing the sear and releasing the hammer. Something like that. Since the trigger has less work to do, less energy is required to pull it.
