As you can see from my signature line I am an Endowment Member of the NRA. I don’t completely agree with the exact wording of the NRA’s message or their methods; in other words I am tired of drinking the NRA Kool-Aid strait and am thinking of adding a mixer. So I am considering expanding my financial support for organizations defending the RKBA. Anyone who is financially supporting the Second Amendment Foundation or similar organizations please post a comment on your experience and why I may want to give the organization financial support. Thanks.

Other national organizations are always good to give to, but your state level grassroots groups are very important too. The fight has become more of a state level situation since last year's failure to pass any federal gun control laws.

If you post your state, I'm sure some other members will guide you in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply, I agree with you, but I live in Arizona where the RKBA is under little threat. I feel help with the fight is needed more on the national level and in more unfortunate states. I am really looking for opinions on what organization, other than the NRA, that fights at the national level and in other states is the best choice for me to support.

I like the SAF. I think their record speaks for itself.

I also like CGF for a good state specific organization. They have some good cases working through the courts right now and I'm sure could use the help.

Take a look at http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/litigation/

IMO, the laws and court cases going on in CA NY NJ etc will have greater influence over the entire nation than any thing coming out of AZ AK VT etc.

I have to go with Calguns. A lot of the cases that are being fought here may have National impact and we could see a few hit the Supreme Court in a few years.

Since you are in Arizona, you should look into Arizona Citizens Defense League. AzCDL was the driving force in making AZ a constitutional carry state to mention just one of their successes.

I agree with this. Just because you guys have the upper hand right now doesn't mean there aren't those out to take your Rights. Keep them supported, maybe get involved in how they do it.

I was kind of on the fence about SAF but where the NRA wins battles on the legislative side (supporting/opposing laws) the SAF has won some pretty big cases on the judicial side (in the courtroom) recently.

Also, JPFO (Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership) is a fierce little organization that could use all the help they can get. I believe they may be getting bought out by SAF though so who knows on that front.

Thanks for the CGF suggestion. I travel to the Los Angeles area several times a year and may in a few years live part of the year (summer) in Ventura County.

Since nobody has mentioned anything negative about SAF I will probably get involved.

Frankly, I don't see much that the NRA is doing in my state, and it bothers me.

My support is going to:

http://www.ccdl.us/

Local state senators/ representatives that seem to support my values

NRA seems to be a non participant in the struggle in Connecticut, if they are not here locally, ...

I would advise supporting the CA 2A effort since, as stated, the success of those cases will have national consequences.

I also advise supporting the WA 2A effort right NOW. I 594, a bill that will be voted on soon, will have very negative impact on our rights. While not everyone agrees on UBC, UBC is just the Trojan Horse for some very draconian restrictions on gun owners. Defeating it is critically important to use nationally.

Calguns is cool. As an ex- Californian, who still loves the "Golden State" , the most beautiful place on earth, support for them is essential. They get things done as the record shows.

Our best stop gap against the insidious, anti gun ,nanny state, statists. They are pure evil and must be stopped. But, like Mark Twain, I repeat myself. :D

I'm floating back and forth between AZ (Havasu) and CA (Riverside County right now and north Orange County) and have been residents of both. Maybe some day we'll meet and have a bite to eat. :)

As someone mentioned above, the NRA seems to lean towards the legislative side and the SAF tends to lean towards the litigation side.

Unfortunately, the legislative side has been an uphill battle for decades and there always a new batch of anti's getting into politics. Vote out 1 anti and there seems to be 3 more waiting to fill the shoes.

Winning court cases sets precedence for generations to come that aren't easily reversed when new anti's come into politics. They'll have to think of even stupider laws that more fence sitters will be able to see them for what they are.

Thanks for the suggestions. I joined the Second Amendment Foundation and donated to The Calguns Foundation.

The Illinois State Rifle Association has been pretty active in pushing back against the anti gunners. They're swarming all over our state, as evidenced by Chicago's ultra-restrictive guns laws and us being the last state to allow CC.

The best advice I have ever received was from my former Congressman Bob Schaffer from Colorado's 4th Congressional District. He always advised to give money to an individual, not a group. Hopefully you can support a candidate in your own Congressional District so that you may speak with him/her in a one on one situation. Bob had a regular Monday morning breakfast where constituents could comment on things facing the Congress that week as well as the general direction of government. A Representative or Senator who recognizes a constituent who has donated money or attended his functions is more likely to listen to the opinions of that constituent than to someone who claims to have donated or belonged to an organization. The elected official in YOUR district knows that you can cast a vote either in their favor or against them so they will be much more receptive. Don't be a kook though.

The NRA does not use sound judgment when picking whom they support, and you cannot be assured that any other group does either which is why giving to the individual candidate is a much better investment in liberty than giving to any group or political party. Just my $.02....

Try to motivate those you talk to, like at the ranges and matches, to join and contribute.
It's amazing how many gun owners don't assist preserving the very rights they enjoy.
