So over the holidays I went back East to visit my family and I came back with two nearly forgotten family members!
About fifteen years ago my grandpa passed away from cancer. He was a good man and served in WW2 as a tail gunner in a B-24 Liberator in the Europe. When I was ten years old he gave my very first rifle, an old Marlin .22 lever action. His other guns including a Savage 99 and an Ithaca double barrel shotgun. When he passed away I really wanted to take possession of his other two guns but my uncle (who isn't very well liked by the family) snatched them up before I could get to them. For the past 15 years I had nearly forgotten about these guns until this past Christmas. I was helping my uncle move an old tv into his basement and there in the corner were the two rifles that belonged to my grandpa. I went over and checked them out and saw that they were covered in dust and cobwebs and all of the metal had a good layer of surface rust
After a bit of persuading my uncle agreed to let me have them and so I brought them back with me to NM. I spent today cleaning them up and I was able to get most of the surface rust off them without damaging the original finish. They both appear to be very old and have probably been in my family since my grandpa was a young man, I know he used them both as hunting rifles many decades ago.
The serial number indicates that it was made in 1920!
Since this is the rifle section I will post the pictures of the Savage 99 here. I will post pictures of the Ithaca SXS in the shotgun section, here's a link to it....http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=6960085#post6960085
