I have a couple of old rifles that I got from my dad that he got from his dad. One of them My great grandpa got for my grandpa. I shoot them all the time but just realized that I don't know anything about them. I thought that I would tap THRs infinate knowlage base for some information on them. The first is a Remington model 12 .22LR pump rifle. My great grandpa cut down the stock for a kid to use when he gave it to my grandpa for his first gun. My dad got it for his first and I got it for my first gun. The second is a Winchester model 88 .243 lever action. No specific questions just want some general info on them. Are they pretty common rifles? When were they last made? Thanks for any info I'll get to work on my own research.

These are just from the 1st page of a Yahoo search, probably a lot more info out there. Hope this helps you. From the photos on those sites they look like cool rifles, and it sounds like yours have some nice history to them.

Very good condition, the scope is a little banged up. The only problem is it has a lefty stock since my grandpa was ambidextrious (sp?) but kept his rifle on the left when on horseback.

Killed my first rabbit at 5 years old with my Grandpa's model 12 Remington .22. Still have it, and have acquired a couple others through the years. Damn fine rifles, shoot forever and are amazingly accurate considering the technology at the time.

The 88 you should have appraised by a qualified gun dealer (that you inform ahead-of-time that you have no interest in selling to him). You may be pleasantly surprised.

I don't really care about the value other than it is kind of interesting to know since I will never sell it. Keeping it and all the others in the family.
