Research Colorado...

Hey friends,

I've been researching Colorado but would like a more definitive answer to this question. (Preferably from a CO resident)

Will be headed to CO next week. Possess a NM CCW. What are the restrictions on "prohibited places?"

Have read through PDO, but not sure all that info is accurate.

I'm specifically looking at CCW in locations licensed to sell/dispense alcohol.

Any info would be grand. Thanks a lot!

As far I know, you are OK in locations that sell or dispense alcohol. Carry while intoxicated is prohibited, but intoxicated has not been defined yet under the CCW law (don't assume it means the same as the DUI laws, IOW).

I'm trying to do a search now but IIRC prohibited places are:

Schools;

Any posted place which has metal detectors in place.

other then court houses, anywhere that does weapons screenings (aka football stadiums, some clubs, etc), k-12 schools, you are good to go.

I'd read somewhere that business owners can prohibit carry...and that's fine, I guess. Their call. (I just don't spend money there)

But - what are the regs regarding posting? Are there specifics like in Texas?

School grounds- Highschool and lower (can be inside a locked car in parking lot). The Colorado University campuses are a gray area. The state legislature specifically removed college campuses from the prohibited list in 2003, but then Attorney General Salazzar (now one of the state's Senators) wrote an opinion stating that the Regents could still prohibit firearms. Most other colleges indicate that weapons are prohibited, but they have no legal justification to do so unless they are private institutions.

Public property posted to prohibit firearms AND having permanent security personnell AND permanent electronic screening devices posted at EVERY entrance to the building.

Private property posted to prohibit firearms. No specific posting required. You can also be told verbally, of course.

Everywhere else in the state is OK.
