Do you mean he was spraying the cases, rather than the bullets?

It is fairly common to lube cases when loading on a progressive press, it just makes the whole operation smoother.

I use a mixture of lanolin and 93% alcohol, mixed in a ratio of 1:12. The important thing is to allow the mixture to dry before reloading

Yes, just the cases. He sprayed a group of them, rolled them around in a rag, allowed the alcohol to dry off, then sort of wiped them down just a little.

I was thinking I could just roll them for a short time on my not-very-wet RCBS lube pad.

I put mine in a plastic bag, give it a couple of light sprays, close the bag, roll them around a bit, repeat and pour them out to air dry

A useful piece of information ...

While assembling my new Pro2000 press that my old RCBS dies, with the nice collar with clamping screw, won't fit. The locking collar is too large in diameter, because I assume RCBS wanted (correctly) to keep the size of the press smaller. The locking rings are each 1.39" in diameter, and the locking screw sticks out 0.1" beyond that.

If this isn't clear, picture the 5 holes in the die holder to be arranged in a 3 inch diameter circle. Put a grape over each hole. No problem. Now try that with an grapefruit - no go.

I'm guessing that was a logical reason why RCBS changed the design, not simply to save money.

If you need some RCBS rings with the Set Screws, I'll trade you some for yours with the split rings. All my dies have the Hornady rings

Thanks for the offer - I went through all the old boxes of RCBS and Lyman dies that I'll never need, and the Lyman dies had small rings, still with a clamp, not the set screw, and they fitted - just barely. There is barely enough clearance, but that's enough. They've been sitting in boxes for over 30 years, so they need a bit of penetrating oil and a lot of force to break them loose, but I've done that before. The Lyman rings are 1.3" diameter, and the clamping screw doesn't stick out beyond the OD.
