When I lived out West, a popular drug store chain (now owned by one of the big boys) sold guns, ammo, reloading stuff including powder, beer, wine and hard liquor, and OH YEAH - DRUGS. You could walk in, turn left and buy a gun with some ammo, go to the left back corner to get a bottle of bourbon then on to the back right corner for your meds - one stop shopping at its best. NEVER any issues with that either, but then most places were 24/7 and you could buy booze anytime day or night. It's amazing when folks just get used to it how it becomes no big deal, like some certain current admin policies.(but we won't go any further on THAT!) ;)

It really depends on what they're charging for drinks.

I go to a range like that often. People shoot, put their guns away and then sit back and have a burger and beer while watching others shoot. I don't drink, but have yet to hear of any incidents in the 15 years I've been going there.

I don''t drink maybe 3 beers in a year. But I would support a place like that. Stop for dinner shoot a little have a glass of tea and discuss training, shooting and girls (without the wife there), and just hang out.

I've seen 10 police officers in the Czech Republic come into a restaurant for a beer and bowl of soup for lunch. Alcohol just doesn't have the stigma in Europe that it does here.

That is absolutely unlikely. The beer was most probably non-alcoholic. They'd lose the job for drinking any alcohol.

And if you CC or open carry during hunt under influence, that also means good bye to firearms license. Even repeated driving under influence leads to loss of firearms license.

This was in Stare Mesto, Czech Republic in 2007. The police officers were in uniform in the middle of the day.

We used to do it in Germany all the time. pretty much all the gun ranges served alcohol.

As has been mentioned, a non-issue.

Florida has, since 1987 (when its carry-laws went into effect), permitted carry while in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Never been a problem.

I didn't take the poll, and the reason being, it limited the reasons for such.

I grew up in an alcoholic home, so I don't drink, nor do I go to places, homes, or events where people are consuming alcohol. And secondary to that, I consider alcohol and firearms to be in the same category as alcohol and automobiles, the two don't mix.

Your opinion, you're welcome to it; others do not agree. Gun Clubs have restaurants/bars attached as part of their complex all over - I have never seen an issue at any of them in many states. It really is no big deal.

Well, there's nothing wrong with someone having a terrible family history and needing to stay away from alcohol. That's not an indictment against the idea of a gun club selling drinks. I think gamestalker was just saying his exact position and reason for not attending was not represented in the poll.

I just don't drink away from home, so the drinks could be free and I still wouldn't partake. Of course, some of my motivation is that state law prohibits alcohol in one's system while carrying :). I voted "Yes."

I belonged to a gun club many years ago that had a bar. Many people joined the club just to drink at the club house,as well as many special wild game dinners, because it was cheap and never even used the ranges. There were never any problems and of course it was against club rules to drink and shoot.

Now I noticed when I was a guest at some very fancy type gun clubs they all had bars/served alcohol in the club house. You shot your rounds of trap and skeet, sporting clays, etc and then went to have a few sodas, steaks, cigars.

Hard Rule:
When the beer comes out of the case, the guns go in the case.
No exceptions.

As usual, though, the devil is in the enforcement details.

Alcohol/ Gunpowder

If someone likes to visit such a place perhaps they often stroll through a fireworks factory smoking a cigar.

Comments like this help no one. Total inflammatory (pun intended) baloney.

Its the same at any hunting club. I have drank many a beer after shooting trap and skeet.

The trap club I belong to has a bar. It typically opens after shooting is done. However, they have had social evenings where it opens early and shooting is still ongoing. It's simple to solve the potential problem. When you drink, your State ID info is passed to cashier who runs to range. That way if you go to shoot later, they can see if you have had a drink. It's not foolproof but it seems to work well.

I have learned a great deal of bench rest shooting info by going to the clubhouse afterwards and having a cold beverage afterwards. I am not a bar person at all otherwise.
