Restoration of Rights?

I want to thank you all for the advice. DMF, thanks for the links, more to read. I got a lot of misinformation while going through court. I am going to file the appeal, though it may not help.I have been on the outside for so long, I don't really expect a fair shake. It would be a nice surprise. I'll still be around, just unarmed, so nothing there changes. It would be nice to be nice to have rights again. Don't ever take them for granted.

just unarmed

Make due with what is legal .......now. Get one of those small $20 digital numerical safes, 12x12x6. Bolt it to the wall in your bedroom or closet. Have your wife sell the shotgun. She did get it back didn't she? She can buy a handgun. A 38 revolver will work fine. Have her change the combo to the safe and keep it and the ammo in it. Perfectly legal and she can get fairly quick access if she has too. Get a small padlock for the case it came in for when she transports it to the range so you don't have access in the car. Buy her some gun safety and handling lessons because you can't teach her and I've heard and know from my wife, it's better if the husband doesn't anyways. Get a black powder pistol for yourself. Most black powder ranges are outdoor and exclusive for black powder so you wouldn't be around modern firearms. She might even get into black powder. She may be hesitant to even want anything to do with firearms but show her the statues that say what I have proposed is legal for you or even better have a lawyer tell her. Then just relax and have fun. Stay clean, safe and don't bend the rules. You got a raw deal but it's not the end of the world.

Blackpowder derringer for the win. 4 shots of 44 caliber for the win.

4 shot derringer? wow

There you go, pcosmar. But get a full size too, alot more comfortable to shoot.

pardons

i'm trying for a presidential pardon. hes given quite few so far. i'll try to remember to tell you how the process plays out

i'm trying for a presidential pardon

For a federal conviction, right? pcosmar's are state. He might get a state pardon, but it would be rare to get 2 state pardons, if even possible. Maybe 1 pardon and 1 expungement. I doubt it though.

RE: Blackpowder firearms

While some blackpowder firearms are legal for people who are prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms, state laws can and do vary. In some states felons are prohibited from possessing all firearms including blackpowder firearms. Check the relevant statutes to see what applies to you.

No means no

What kind of felony was the conviction for?
PD responding to a domestic involving a drunk relative and you get your criminal history run......someting is not right here......

Isn't it said to be one of the most potentially dangerous calls for the officers these days and that would be a common procedure for officer safety to positively identify all the occupants?

Personally, I think dv and the lautenburg act are the premiere government gun control of the 21st century overtaking and greatly surpassing the felony bans of the past 38 years.

The pardons would be unlikely, unless God was really smileing at me.
The original convivtion years ago was armed stupidity. I cooperated fully back then,I signed my search warrents, and plead guilty NO plea bagain. I did my time, had a good prison record. I even got some letters for fighting fires in a nearby town.
I don't want to whine!! I screwed up. I blame no one else. I just thought I was past it. A fair shake today would be nice.
The wife was thinking about a handgun before this happened, and they took her shotgun. No she did not get it back.
I have had black powder before, and I like them. I just have to make sure I can have powder. You never know what someone will have a hissy-fit over till it happens.

I'm sorry for your situation.

Fight to change the laws. You are not alone! The gun laws are, to put it mildly, very unjust and illogical. They are veiled attempts at unarming the populace at large, in my opinion. Citizens can lose gun rights for a number of unrelated crimes. This MUST change if we are to continue as a peaceful nation. I won't be surprised if the frustration and violence escalate in this nation due to the unfair policies of the last few decades of state and federal leaders.
