must've been a year ago or so i was subscribed to centerfire systems and they had a retro ar15 (M16a1) parts kit minus the barrel and lower receiver for $299. if i'm correct these are all original parts and i was iffy on it because it did note that some of the parts could be damaged given the price and i didn't want to take the gamble. after building my first ar15 last fall i am more confident in it and would like to attempt to put one together. even if the parts are damaged with enough search i'm sure i could find parts somewhere... anyone know where i can find a kit for a reasonable price? a LGS has kits but wants $500 (no lower receiver) for it and about $800 for an assembled rifle.

The sportsmans guide usually has kits, you might just have to do a search for them because the last time i browsed around through menu's I couldn't find them. I have heard of people missing parts in their kits, and sportsmansguide handled getting them replacement parts.

Green Mountain barrel has reasonably priced 1/12 twist "pencil" profile barrels, and a few other smaller barrel makers make 1/9 and 1/7 twist barrels.

EDIT: Sorry it seems like Sportsmans Guide is sold out, here are a few other kits:

You should have bought one a year ago. The price of them has gone up in direct relation to the available supply. I doubt if you are going to find any for much less than five bills.
