So with the recall of the Remington 700 series (including the CDL) series of guns, I dutifully got my shipping box from Remington sized for the whole rifle. At the same time I purchased a Jewell trigger which is how I plan on improving what seems to be a low-risk situation.
My concern is that a beleaguered company (they have that other R51 issue ongoing as well) dealing with both issues has a high likelihood of failing to make my CDL better in a reasonable time frame not to mention the possibility of marring the finish of an otherwise perfect firearm.
So I plan to use the big rifle-size box they sent, enclosing just the Rem trigger (that I will remove to install the Jewell) and a letter asking them to just provide what ever remediation to the trigger that they are doing for everyone else and then just send it back to me. Perhaps even in a smaller box.
At the same time, I'll in stall the Jewell and continue to enjoy the CDL while most people play Remington trigger clean out and replacement bingo.
Is this too difficult a dive in to a small cup to ask Remington to spot for me? Will they just discard the stuff I send them ensuring that I'll be out one original OEM but over-lubed trigger?

I'm guessing the box Remington sent you is better than one of the boxes I received. A trigger assembly would not have made the trip...would have probably fallen out. :what:

If I was you I'd replace the factory trigger with the aftermarket one like you mentioned. I'd then take the factory trigger and destroy it. They are pretty much worthless.

i have owned remington rifles since the first one i bought in 1958 and have owned a truck load of them since. i have adjusted quite a few triggers to suit me, using the three step prosess A,B,C from the bolt action rifles 4th edition book. as i don,t need a hair trigger on my hunting rifles, 3-4 lbs as has served me well. none of my remington rifles are going back, you can soak your triggers in a good solvent and take them apart clean and any goupe out of it and lightly lube and adjust them the right way and as you should know never point a rifle at any thing you don,t want to shoot. eastbank.

They didn't clean my Model 700 ADL trigger; they replaced it with a better one---in 7 weeks, to be precise. The new trigger is excellent, and they took good care of my rifle. Not sure they'd do the same thing if you sent them the trigger group only. Why not give them a call?

Surely you can't be serious, and blame Remington on the shape the box got to you, via UPS..... You do know what UPS stands for right? Ur probably screwed.....

I would worry more about sending my rifle to Remington, via UPS, than to worry about what Remington would/will do to it.

Say what Henry45? Read my post again. I didn't blame Remington for the damaged box.

As an added note. When my rifle was picked up by UPS my wife said the UPS guy dropped it in the driveway. I removed the stock and bottom metal before shipping...glad for that.

I seriously doubt and just about guarantee Remington will not send you a new or repaired trigger back. Way too much liability for them, and especially so considering this is a recall thing.

Ya know, I've adjusted more Remington triggers than I can possible count, all with excellent results. This recall thing, well I don't put much stock in this, especially since it's been on going for decades.

Everyone calls Rem. triggers junk. I have not once had a problem getting 2 to 2-1/2 lb. triggers with a proper adjustment. They break like glass, and I've never had one malfunction before or after adjustment. I just did one a couple weeks ago. It came from the factory with the usual 4-1/4 lb. trigger, and I don't care who you are, that heavy a trigger makes it next to impossible to shoot decent groups at any distance. 15 minutes later I had a nice crisp 2-1/4 lb. trigger.

I bought a NIB 700 ADL back in the early 80's that would randomly discharge when closing the bolt. Fortunately for me and those around me, I have always handled firearms properly, so it never posed a danger in this respect. So I took the trigger and soaked / rinsed it in acetone, blew it out with compressed air, re-installed it and made some fitting adjustments to the safety, which was binding and sticking, and it never had another problem. I still have that rifle, and it still functions flawlessly with the 2 lb. trigger adjustment I made.

Back to the O.P., I would just put your new after-market trigger on and call it done. I doubt Remington with do anything for you if you send the old trigger back.

Personally, I wouldn't send a rifle back to them over this trigger issue. I have 2, one has a Timney & the other a Shilen trigger. Yes, I know the recall is 'free', still wouldn't do it.

I decided to replace all my Remington triggers with appropriate models from Timney. If you order direct from Timney, you can specify your desired pull weights and they will preset them to your spec. I'm delighted with their customer service and product and give them four thumbs up.

Easy install by a qualified smith or yourself if you have the right tools.

:)

I did a Timney also. Ordered it and had it in all in 4 or 5 days.

I would expect someone to think that trigger in the large box is obnoxious. If it were me and I opened the incredibly lite box, I would probably laugh about it. Or worse yet, someone will just think someone is being funny and just toss the box trigger and all.
