Hello my friends. I was a member here years ago and got sidetracked with golf. It seems the golf fire is burning lower these days and the firearm fire is still there--never having burned out or diminished. I must admit that I do more acquiring than shooting these days, and have undertaken adding some firearms that were part of my youth but foolishly let go. This brings back many memories of hunts with my friends and relatives and warms my heart.

It is good to be back in the fold.....

Welcome back. I put the golf clubs down years ago when a shoulder injury put paid to golf as a hobby many years ago. As a golfer, I was not there to socialize and usually haunted the course when it was most empty as a solo player. I pretty much do the same thing when going to the range because I find the total concentration on what I am doing as a release from day to day stress.

Welcome back. I find that many hobbies wax and wane. I binge on books, then model railroading, then music, etc. But some aspect of the shooting sports has always been a constant. I vacillate between hunting, target shooting and acquiring. Right now I'm winding down a short acquisition phase. Couple pistols for myself and the missus. And after decades of disliking them on general principle, I'm looking at pistol caliber AR platforms.

Welcome back!
I never had the knack for golf.

I did have a serious problem with action figures, though. It's OK, I can admit it now. I've started making amends to the people I hurt.....

As my kids got old enough to start shooting, the guns came out and the little plastic guys got put away. I will say that firearms have a MUCH better resale value!

Anybody know anyone who wants 3000 storm troopers?

3,000 Storm troopers! No wonder you're called the NIGHTLORD!

When we were kids my brother and I use to be really into the little Airfix HO army figures. We amassed quite a few, enough of them to make us feel like we had our own private armies!

I used to shoot plastic army men with .22s; the same solution could help your action figure issue...
That would be fun! Even used, they are worth $3-5 a piece, though, so I better not. :)

I get a few hundred sold off, I can afford that new JRA M14 I've had my eye on......:D

Golf and shooting have often rotated as my leading obsession/distraction. They have much more in common than those who do only one would believe.

Oh, and welcome back!

I've always considered a golf course as a waste of a perfectly good rifle range. Maybe because I'm terrible at golf.
I have introduced my son to plinking little green army men with an air rifle.
And, yes, compared to cars and women, guns are ridiculously cheap.
Besides, there are so many sides to the firearm hobby/habit/recreation that you can always find something that tickles your fancy.

Ultrastick - Welcome back. I can definitely relate to your situation. Hope you are back for good - I think that the "firearm fire" , as you described it , is a good thing to carry into the , ahem , sunset years. It is a discipline/hobby that one can engage in at one's own pace , engage when you feel like it , safe stays closed on off days …..

--- Man , except for the put down the clubs part I could have written that myself. I like the golf course and the club range on poor weather days, late in the day or very early - empty , almost desolate. In better weather I go to private land where I am alone or in preplanned partner shoot.

The "action figures" on my shelves are lead soldiers cast from antique mold sets. Troopers, sergeants, officers, cavalrymen, buglers, machine gunners, mortar men, cannons, whippet tanks, and all of the rest. Poured from the same mix as the majority of my bullets.
-And if I want to use them as targets, no problem. They get recycled along with the bullets.

Good to have another Mike in the herd. We all diverge to other interests. Even from the things we enjoy the most we sometimes need a break. As far as collecting (or acquiring vs. shooting) goes the gun interest (I don't want to call it a hobby) has many branches. I used to be primarily a hunter but now my interest has turned to self defense and CC.

That’s a lot more fun than with clubs.

I keep meaning to bring a shag-bag of old golf balls to the farm with me and my dad or brother or friend. My plan is to hit wedge shots with the balls, and let them try to shoot the balls in flight with a shotgun.* Pretty much like throwing clays, but with a ball "thrown" with a wedge. I have no idea whether that will work out as being worthwhile or not.

* Obviously, as when throwing clays, I would stand behind the firing line and hit shots from behind and across their line of sight.
