Found a barely to gently used Ruger P85 (9mm) for $300. Fits my wishes for an economical 9mm single/double action first handgun. Reviews and opinions from those with experience with this gun would be much appreciated.
I bought one a year ago from a friend for 225.00$ (A GOOD FRIEND) its a p85 mII its the same gun except Ruger had a recall on the first p 85 so this one has the mods all ready done i love too shoot so i take it to the range alot ,fires great, never ever a problem.
I talked to several gun smiths before buying and they all said the same thing " YOU CANT KILL THEM" the price is just a little high but not a bad deal ,besides that its a great gun thats tough and reliable .
They are good shooters but look out for rust, ( I KNOW its stainless, do it anyhow), and galling on the recoil spring guide. They are reliable and accurate. Hard to beat for $300 .
For 250, it might be a good deal. The trigger pull on the one a friend had years ago kept me from ever wanting one. I was shooting Beretttas back then. It is a very bulky chunky gun, but I'm sure it would last you forever, and be very dependable. I know Mas Ayoob thinks highly of the P90 series, which are very similar.
The first pistols ive ever used, it was the MKII Edition P85. Great gun then, but would pass on it now. Ruger is stopping production of almost all of the P series pistols, looks like they are coming up with some new pistols to replace the old line.
