It may be old news to a lot of 22 Hornet shooters but the Speer manual crew has finally realized that small pistol primers are preferred to small rifle in loading the 22 Hornet. Data in the new manual for both rifle and pistol loads utilize CCI500 small pistol primers. They note that small pistol primers allowed higher velocities at safe pressures as well as greatly reduced extreme variations of pressure....The new manual seems like a very good one and with 1,149 pages no less. Still there always seems to be room for one more manual on the reloading book shelf.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the new Speer manual. I wouldn't have even looked twice at it otherwise.

Does it include data for Hodgdon's "Lil'Gun" Powder ??

Most recent manuals ignore the Lil'gun, even though it is unequivocally the best powder for the Hornet for bullets 40gr and up. (H110 is better with the 33-35gr bullets)

I use 12.5gr with a Sierra 40gr HP and a "small pistol primer", ususally the CCI #500, or a Winchester SP.

Seated to 1.780" oal it just will fit the magazine of my Ruger 77/22 KBZ (stainless heavy barrel).

Accuracy is amazing and velocity is right at 3,000fps.
Does anything you'd want to do with a Hornet.

GooseGestapo / Yes, they do use Lil' Gun with all bullet weights. Regarding your comments with lightweight bullets, you're in agreement with the Speer staff. From the 22 Hornet footnotes "Lil Gun proved very effective; it produced significant velocity gains with all bullet weights with the exception of the 33 grn TNT". They obtained better TNT velocities with H110, 296, and AA#9....
