Revolver as Graduation Present?

Just thinking about this, and thought I'd post it.

When my son graduated from LSU almost two years ago, the graduation present I gave him was a Smith & Wesson 686, 7-shot, 4-inch barrel, with his name, date of graduation, and "LSU" on the side plate.

He loved it.

His girl friend (who was new to him and us at the time) was amazed. "I got stationary," she said.

Imagine her surprise when the graduation present from my son's grandfather (my Dad) was a Beretta over/under.

Anyone else give guns for presents?

Yeah...

The first Christmas my bride spent with my family, she saw an assortment of rifles, pistols, shotguns, knives unwrapped on Christmas morning. She was quite impressed!

Yup. Birthdays, graduations, Christmas, Confirmations, are all reasons for local gun shop owners to rejoyce around here.

I think guns make great gifts....I know I love getting guns or gunstuff as gifts.
My local shop includes a box of shells with a "birthday gun" purchase.

Oh, yes - - -

I've given a couple, most notably to my sons--But didn't wait for graduation. Also to my "significant other," several years ago. Taught her in CHL class, later gave her a 9mm. Recently married her, and she's recently claimed my Buckmark as "Hers," for matches mainly, but I notice she's begun keeping it in her shooting bag . . . .

An excellent example of well-thought out giving is an old friend in Dallas. When each of her two daughters graduated high school and was about to go away to college, she made certain that each had a late model, reliable car and a new S&W Chiefs Special. My friend, a really pragmatic professional woman, enlisted my aid to teach the young women to shoot properly. My gifts were my instructional services and all the handloaded practice ammo they cared to shoot.

We had long discussions about secure storage and proper carry technques. One of the major gifts was their mother's recognition of her daughters as mature young persons with good judgement, worthy of her trust that they would do the right thing.

For their part, the girls are turning out pretty nicely. One is pending her veterinary degree, mother of her own two kids. The other is a practicing physician.

Andy Devine Gun Gift

Quick story . . .

Andy Devine, the actor, was a serious gun guy. He had a gun cabinet full of Parker shotguns, and he had two married daughters who loved the .410.

He told them that the first one to give him a grandchild got the .410.

One day, Andy and Dogie (his wife) are sitting at home. The front door opens, and one of the daughters strides through the living room without saying a word.

She marches back to the gun cabinet, pulls out the .410 Parker, turns and walks out, closes the door, and never speaks.

That's how she announced that she was pregnant!
