Revolver identification

Hello all!

I would appreciate any help any help in identifying this revolver which was handed down from my Grandfather. Thanks for your time and i look forward to hearing from you.

It is a 38 special with a 2 inch barrel.

Colt Official Police, made in or about 1941 based on the serial number. Barrel length and grips probably are not original. Colt will send you a letter at your request and for a fee with original specifications and such.

Pretty nice gun, by the way. A little worn, but decent shape and attractive (as Colts are by nature -- I happen to collect double action Colts).

That is what I wrote, but I edited the rest as I was wrong and Duke of Doubt is doubtlessly correct. (I overlooked the frame shape.) The grips are not original, but the OP was made with a 2" barrel on special order. The marking on the barrel should tell if it was factory or not. No marking would indicate a replacement or cut off barrel.

Value in average condition runs around $200.
