"Back in the day" bullseye shooters would on occasion drill through the hammers to allow for a shorter lock time. Lighter hammer, faster travel. Same concept you can see these days on many lighter hammers on competition 1911s and other pistols.

The stocks on Xavier's and my OM are Roper's.
