They are, although that's not what I carry. I'm carrying 135gr 38+p Gold Dots right now. Thinking of switching back to 357. Also thinking very seriously about Badger Boot grips.

I see that the .38 Gold Dot 135 grain is the short barrel version for the .38 special.
So even on this gun you notice the difference in performance between the .38 +P vs. the .357.

Yup, I fired my recently purchased SP101 today for the first time and boy was I surprised. As I stepped to the firing line all I could think of was how some people said the 357 was a bear. Ha! I started with 38 specials +P and it was a complete charm. Barely any recoil at all. Now I manned up and loaded it with 357 loads and all I could think of was this beast ripping my hands right off and how its gonna be a monster, I let it rip and nothing much different than the 38 special +p. I was in shock because I thought it was gonna be worse.

Boy was I surprised, it wasn't that bad at all.I will admit, shooting the 38 special +P corbons out of it was a complete charm. I shot about 100 357 rounds out of it today and was fine. Most of them were rapid fire.

Try the Buffalo Bore .357 125 grain and tell me what you think.

Very true, those Scandium models suck to shoot anything out of and they are $$$. I have no frame of reference with the LCR but out of my S&W 442 Speer GDHP 135 +P loads were not that bad, I wouldn't want to shoot them all day but I could easily stand 50-100. I think you're right though about the LCR357 and the extra 4oz helping with recoil, but the only thing I would say about 357 for SD is if you don't regularly shoot to practice with them you shouldn't carry them. Also 357 out of a light gun like that you may only get 1 accurate shot, when a follow up shot may be needed it could be too much. With adrenalin rush and stress I wouldn't want another factor into me missing a shot or loosing my life, but that's neither here or there.
I like the 357 for SD but I carry it in my SP101 and love it so far.

What holster is that? I really like it?

Here is my beloved SP101 3"

With my 6" GP100, I've got all the revolvers I ever want. Except for that new Single Ten .22. And a Super BH .44mag. And a Vaquero in .45. And maybe one of those Alaskan in .454. Guess better toss in an LCR as well.

Nagnaport SP101

I know that this is an old thread, but I recently got my101 back from Magnaport with new sights. All the other work was done by them years ago. I sure am shooting a lot better!

The Triton night sights work fine too.

those pachmayr compact grips really soak up the recoil from magnums.

it is a newer revolver, in a few years they might have a few options. I have never shot an lcr, how are the grips removed?

Sounds like it would be easy for a grip company to come out with other options for that.

just thought i would give this thread a bump. i forgot how much i like my sp 101. shot 250 .357 158gr today and 100 .38s. i think the sp is going to be winter carry. bad guys wear puffy jackets in the winter here.

SP-101 is a nice size .357. Now Ruger has he LCR .357.

The Ruger LCR .38+P loads has more recoil than the SP-101 shooting those .357 loads.
