It has been a wild couple of months but the RIA 9mm is finally completed. For those interested in the build / 38 super conversion, check out these threads:

The refinish was done by Paul over at Simmons Gun Repair ( http://simmonsguns.com/ ) in Kansas. THANKS PAUL!!! I found him here at THR after asking a question about refinishing. He has been awesome and answered all of my questions promptly. I would rate the customer service as top notch. Best of all, the turn around time was less than two weeks, including the shipping! If anyone needs any gunsmithing or finish work, I highly recommend them. The price was more than reasonable as well. The flats of the slide and frame look like black chrome. Paul polished them out to 1200 grit and matted the rounds. It was du-lite blued to get the black color, which is exactly what I was looking for!!

I am not a photographer so bear with me. They do not do the gun justice. If you have any questions about the finish, conversion, etc. feel free to ask or you can PM me. I have more pics if anyone wants to see them. I need to get a better setup so I can take some really good ones.

Thanks guys!

The gun started life as a 38 super. It was sent to Bob Serva at Fusion Firearms to have a 9mm barrel fitted along with one of his trigger groups. Then, I fit the beavertail safety and thumb safety. Ed Vanden Berg cut the slide for the Novaks. Then Paul @ SGR did the refinish. I shot it some before sending it to SGR and it is an excellent shooter. No recoil and feeds FMJ + JHPs without a problem. I'm very happy! :D

very cool...i like it a lot...would you mind sharing about how much you put into the entire pistol...conversion/finish/etc...??

It ended up costing quite a bit since basically everything on the pistol is changed. However, it was my project gun and was completed over the course of 3-4 months. This made it much more affordable since I couldn't really afford to buy an SA Loaded or EMP outright. Obviously it can be done much cheaper by doing your own work and changing fewer parts.

Gun:
RIA 38 super from Sarco $330

Parts:
9mm Barrel $50
Trigger group (hammer, sear, trigger, etc) $75
Beavertail safety $30
BT jig $20
Thumb safety $15
Rear Novak sight $20
Front Novak blank $20

Gunsmithing:
Fit 9mm barrel + trigger group $180
Fit beavertail + thumb safety Free b/c I did it
Cut slide for Novak sights $125
Polish and refinish $150

Very nice pistol, and it has that "I did it, one of a kind" quality as well.

I need a real 1911 in 9MM. I have an EMP, which is very nice, just not exactly a 1911.

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm going back to the range tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will continue to perform flawlessly!

Man, that gun is beautiful... except for the "Rock Island Armory" engraved on the slide...
