I purchased the RIA CS Tactical about a week ago. I can get the slide off but getting the guide rod and spring out from the barrel is impossible. It says to lift it out but it doesnt clear the barrel link. It has a bull barrel and no barrel bushing but it does have some kind of sleeve it looks like inside the slide where the guide rod and spring are. Any ideas if I have to pull this sleeve out or is it maybe built into the slide and wont come out? And how if it does? HELP!!!

I had the same problem with a Charles Daly Officer's size. It's been a long time ago, but I seem to remember a burr in the guide rod tube that prevented the guide rod from passing thru the tube far enough to clear the barrel link for removal. Bet your problem is simular.
Good Luck!

On the CD the guide rod tube comes out to the rear. Which is the only way it could work. Your RIA should work the same way. Try pushing the guide rod tube in from the muzzle with a pencil or something simular while compressing the guide rod spring, and lift the guide rod up and out over the link lug. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. I don't have much of a camera.

Does the guide rod have a tiny hole in it 1/2 way back? If so push it forward until it shows in front of the muzzle(out of the slide) and put a bent paper clip through it to hold it that way and then slide it all out.

Sorry about the poor pic.

Walkalong,
Don't think the RIA has the feature you reffer to. The CD doesn't, don't think they thought of that in the Phillipnes. My Kimber Ultra and Pro Carry both have that feature. They can be disassembled without trapping the pin with the paper clip or the little tool Kimber provides. Just a minor inconvience if you're caught witout one and want to take the gun down.

well i tried the paper clip and i still cant get it to work. it does have a hole in the guide rod near the muzzle. I just cant get it to cant enough to clear the barrel link. I am gonna try and have a go at it again. my guide rod seems to be all one piece not like the ones in the photos above.cant beleive I cant get a silly little guide rod and spring out of this thing. makes me feel retarded. lol

tideguyinva,
Have we deterimed that you have a reverse guide rod plug on your pistol? Do you have a parts diagrahm?

Try this, the RIA dissasembles differently from the normal 1911. A bit like the Charles Daly as I suspected. The search function is your friend!

Disassembly

The field stripping procedure to be followed with the RIA Tactical .45 ACP is different than for other, full length guide rod equipped full size 1911 type pistols. Making sure that the pistol is completely unloaded, and with the magazine removed, the slide must be moved to the rear (under tension from the recoil spring) so that the slide take-down notch is over the slide stop, at which time the right side of the slide stop pin is pushed, and the slide stop is removed. The slide is then moved forward, off the frame, taking care that the guide rod, recoil spring, and recoil spring plug remain in position with the slide. Allow the guide rod to move back slightly toward the rear of the barrel, so that the barrel bushing can be moved, carefully, clockwise, to release the recoil spring plug and spring, toward the muzzle. The recoil spring plug must be pushed in with a non-marring tool (such as the handle of a nylon toothbrush) in order to be able to turn the barrel bushing. Then the full length guide rod can be removed from the slide, toward the chamber end of the barrel. The barrel bushing is then moved counter-clockwise, lining up its notch with the recoil spring tunnel, and removing to the front. The barrel link can then be lowered onto the barrel, and the barrel can be removed from the slide, from back-to-front, toward the muzzle. (This rather complex disassembly procedure is required, because the FLGR is not compressible with the pistol in battery, or, with the slide slightly pushed to the rear.)

That is a reverse plug. You can see it in the pic.
my guide rod seems to be all one piece not like the ones in the photos above
So is the one in the pic I showed of the Kimber. If you have the hole in the rod, it will take down the same way. Yes, I can get mine apart without the little "tool" for the hole, but it is MUCH easier with it.
The link to the RIA dissassembly is for one with a full length rod but NOT a reverse plug. Those kind are a bigger pain than what you have IMHO. Keep playing with it, you will get it.

ok finally got it figured out. you have to use the pin and it pushed the reverse plug out of the slide. very easy once you figure it out. threw on a coat of weapon sheild and now im ready for my first range visit today. Thanks everyone for their help and great instruction. It really did help. I appreciate everyone here at THR. Thank You Oh and I will give a range report as soon as i return.

Glad you got it figured out! Must be a pretty sorry owners manual with those pistols. Let us know how it shoots, preferably at 15 and 25yds. Good Shooting!
