Any one familiar with Dan Wesson that can help me out?

I have a brand new DW SS Custom (.40 S&W). First time disassembling, I rotated the barrel bushing and was able to remove the spring cap, but the recoil spring remained attached to the guide rod. Instructions said this is OK, proceed to remove the slide no problem.

But, now that I have the slide assembly in hand, I can not figure out how to remove the guide rod (with spring attached). The end is way to big to fit over the barrel link, so its stuck. I'm a first timer to Dan Wesson so I'm just hoping its something stupid I'm doing ...

Can anyone assist me from this description? I could send pics if that would help.

Thanks!

most full length rods have a hex key to remove them as the first step. but admittedly have never held the weapon you describe.

Assuming you have a full length one piece guide rod...The recoil spring is removed forward out of the front of the slide, not over the barrel link. Next remove the bushing. Wiggle the guide rod out, should come out easily.

Look at the manual again.

You can also drop by here...http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

tipoc is right. I posted the exact same thing on my RZ-10. There are other, more complicated, ways to do this but I wouldn't sweat it.

If it's like my 1911 you turn the bushing to the left (barrel facing you) to remove the spring cap.

Once it's out you turn the bushing to the right and pull it out.

Remove the slide lock and the slide barrel and recoil spring rod assy. all come off together.

Turn assy. upside down and the recoil spring/rod comes out the bottom of the slide then you can remove the barrel.
