RIDGECREST - Thanks to a grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation's Friends of the NRA program, Ridgecrest received $1,200 to underwrite four IPSC Medal targets for Handgun shooter and two new rifle targets.

"We are very excited about the new target steel," said FNRA Volunteer Ron Frey, "and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community that will enhance the shooting for all that use the Boral Pit." The Boral pit is the first place for everyone that has been designed especially for the safety-conscious shooter. Matches for all types of shooters are available, thanks to the Fund's received through the NRA grants and donations from shooters.

Friends of the NRA is a grassroots, community-minded program supported by gun owners, sportsmen and NRA friends that conducts banquets and other fund-raising events to generate income for the NRA Foundation. Last year, the Friends of the NRA raised a net of nearly $8.1 million through events in 701 communities nationwide. The NRA Foundation has awarded over 8,500 grants nationally with over $202,357 in funds supporting charitable programs in central California.

The NRA Foundation supports a broad range of programs and services that benefit local communities, from providing shooting range access for physically-disabled shooters for firearms safety, education and leadership programs for America's youth.

Some of the programs include the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program which teaches elementary school children gun safety; the Environment, Conservation and Hunting Outreach (ECHO) program that promotes the wise use of natural resources and hunter safety and ethics; and the Refuse To Be A Victim program instructing women in how to live safer, more secure lives, among many others. The NRA Foundation is a non-profit arm of the National Rifle Association and is dedicated to promoting and funding the firearms safety, education and training programs nationally.

Desert Dog are you affiliated with the FNRA over there? I am the Taft Chairman and voted yes for those targets at our annual get together for all of the districts. The Taft Sportsman's Club received a $4400 grant for their local Jr. Pheasant Hunt.

Hmmmmm.

The Wickenburg, Arizona highschool rifle team has four shot-out national match RockRiver Arms AR-15s that need replacing.

We are getting a collection up to buy a new comp rifle and three replacement barrels. I wonder if the Friends of the NRA would do a grant?

I have heard that the deadline for grant proposals is Oct 15th.

Actually, I am not affiliated with the NRA nor with the range.
Just trying to get the word out about the range to people who may be interested in rifle ranges.

I can't speak for your area's committees, but I know our district approves just about everything having anything to do with youth shooting programs. It would certainly be worth investingating. Act soon though, I think our deadline is coming up for grant applications for this year.
