I may be moving and I need to buy some good cases to ship my guns in. I will be traveling with them on the airlines. So I want a large case that can hold both my AR10 with a Scope and my Colt M4 with an EOTech and Millenium light. They are bulky guns. I was looking at cases that hold 4 scoped rifles thinking they could hold my AR10 and M4. I would like suggestions on the best brands ext.

I'm not sure about brands, but if you are looking at airline travel, I would probably lean toward the metal cases for durability. Just my $ .02

Simply because of the value of the guns, I too would be looking at the heavy-duty aluminum premium brand cases.

One "watch-out": Be sure to add extra padding to separate the guns.

It's common for multiple gun cases to let the guns shift around, and if they come in contact, they can damage each other.

I think the most cost-effective solution is an aluminum double rifle case from Sam's Club - see here for details. They sell a single rifle case for about $7 less, but I suspect it would not hold one of your accessory-equipped rifles with adequate space top and bottom. I'd use two of the double cases, if necessary (or strip off some of the accessories and put both rifles into one case).

How about something different?

The Tuffpak is highly recommended by the international big game hunters on the accuratereloading site, but it's $355. Your clothes get packed around your soft-cased guns. Resale should be easy if you don't intend to keep it.

"With room for up to 3 scoped rifles or 5 shot guns, travel with Tuffpak means more gear with fewer bags.

No dividers inside means you decide how many firearms, how much gear, whatever you need for this next trip.

Your firearms travel securely in the padding of their soft bags

The Original measures 52"x13"x12" outside and 50"x11"x10""

355Sigfan;

I was going to recommend Bear Track cases. Then, I thought I'd better check it out & see if they're still in business. They are - but.

I purchased mine in 1998 in Glenrock Wyoming when the facility was located there. The gentleman who owned it had come down from Alaska & wanted to be in the extremely firearms friendly atmosphere of central Wyoming. I understand that later he moved back to Alaska.

In any case, NPI, one of the gun-guru's had just given the cases a very good review in a slick gun-zine. The owner, & I'm sorry I've forgotten his name, told me that he'd hold the price to me, as I'd first called him before the publication of the relevant issue.

So, I got my double case for $150.00. Heavy aluminum, edge gaskets, full length piano hinge, heavy campaign corners, and compression latches. It's great.

Now for the 'but'. Went to the site: www.gstorm.com and hoo-boy!! The prices haven't gone up, they've gone to the moon!! At $200.00 or so for today's money, they'd be worth every penny. Now, however, the double rifle case 52" X 15" X 4.5" is showing $449.00, I can't say that.

You're certainly better off with an aluminum case...got an adequate one at a local gunshow recently for $35. But, my 3 recent shipments have been by heavy-duty $15-$20 plastic cases from Bass Pro Shop, locked with 3 padlocks, one at each corner and another through the handle. No problems...

Considering the extra beating a heavy case large enough to adequately protect your two rifles (be sure to wad extra padding between the rifles to make sure they don't contact each other during a rough transit!) would take, you might be better off with a lighter case for each rifle. Much easier to handle... ;)

Suggest you call your airline to get their suggestions...and requirements for both rifles and ammunition.

"...They are bulky guns..." Only if you leave them in one piece. They do break down by removing the hinge screw. However, when travelling with firearms, you want a hard case. The baggage monkeys aren't gentle. Preferrably one that doesn't look like a gun case. A regular trunk is an idea. Big enough. Solid enough and it locks well. May cost more to fly with though.
