Rifle Ranges in Okla?

Well, I'm finally moved, and with a little luck I may be able to shoot the big boys in another few weeks. But since I now live in Del City, I can no longer shoot off of the back porch (more than a few times anyway). I used to do quite a bit of shooting out at Slaughterville, but that was when I was in Norman. Any of you Okies know of rifle range in the OKC area? I'd be happy with 100yrds.

I'm really glad to be back in pediatric nursing where I belong, but I sure am going to miss living out in the boonies.

You can still go back to Slaughterville Road and head east to the Lexington WMA range. It's free but technically you are supposed to have a valid OK hunting license.

The Oklahoma City Gun Club has a nice rifle range at Arcadia. Tri City has a nice range just south of Norman at the Goldsby exit off I 35.

Do a search here for Oklahoma gun ranges and you'll find all the phone numbers I looked up for another High Roader some time back as well as others.

There is also a range out at El Reno but I don't really know anything about it.

Hope you are getting settled in okay. I'm shooting mostly handguns these days but maybe one of these days we'll get together and shoot? Got a friendly bunch at the OKC IDPA club.

Just found out it will be another six weeks before I'm cleared to shoot anything with the right hand. Did talk them into taking the cast off tho', now there was a fragerant experience. I guess Slaughterville isn't too far to drive, but it does get crowded at times. Might have to check into the OKC gun club and Tri-city just for grins.

Depends on what kind of range you're looking for. There's one out past Yukon, just south of I-40. It's an outdoor range, and not much for looks. It's got a cover over the shooting benchs with seperate pistol and rifle range. $6 for as long as you wanna shoot. Sometimes it's on the honor system. I've never seen it too crowded. I live out by lake Thunderbird, and that's where I go when I can't get to the farm in Texas. I like the ol' man that runs it and like I said, never been too crowded.

If you're interested, I'll get the name, number and road it's on Monday. I don't go often enough to remember, and I think I've got it all written down at work. I just know how to get there.

I-40 west to Banner rd. Go south about a mile(maybe less), turn right for about a 1/2 mile. There's a sign where you turn right off Banner rd. Phone # is 262 9011.

Technically, he's not open on Mondays and Wednesdays. Those are usually honor system days.

Like I said it ain't much, but it's got benches, a roof, a place to stick your targets, and some pretty nice folks. What more does one need?

Still Learning, I'm afraid I don't know much about IDPA, showing a bit of my ignorance here. But I'm always up for some shooting, or will be anyway.

Ahhhh... The H&H schill strikes again. The only real reason to shoot a rifle indoors at a place limited to 25 yards is to zero a scope (and maybe shoot a .22 Rifle) and at H&H with their lousy ventilation one is just as likely to breathe in an excess of gaseous lead as to get a good zero.

There's 5 rifle ranges in the OKC Metro one of which is public (Banner Road - Canadian Ranges) where one can actually shoot a rifle at more than 25 yards.

Shoot where ever you'd like 1911Boy but please stop schilling for H&H. It's an okay place but that's about it and as a rifle range it isn't even close to being OK.

well i've lived in norman for 10 years now and like to frequent that very same outdoor range on 180th and yok road (east of slaughterville and lexington). the lack of range fee keeps bringing me back, but have seen some odd birds out there too.

h&h is good for handgun paper punchin'. when the fans are going the air is not that bad, but it sure is when they're off.

the banner road range got mixed reviews from a co-worker of mine who lives in mustang. said he experienced some non-english speaking foreigners there one day who were not at all versed in weapon/range safety, and he's not been back since.

if your in del city now just take that 20 min. trip down sooner road and keep going to lexi.

Is that the range on the Lexington WMA? If so you've got to have a hunting license to use it... Not all shooters are hunters - actually not all hunters are shooters.

I shoot at Banner road about once a week and I've seen less unsafe handling there than any other range. The fella who runs the place is pretty quick to rein anyone in who's being an ijit.
The range at Slaughterville is a whole different story. When I lived in Norman I used to shoot there all the time, but it got to the point where everytime I went I had to pack up and leave because someone kept sweeping the line with a hot weapon, was shooting glass bottles, bowling balls at 5 yards, or better yet shooting downrange while people were setting up their targets.
The last time I was out there I was alone when a couple of young men showed up and started loudly declaring how easy it would be to show up and just shoot someone and take their guns. I saw them shoot, I didn't feel too threatened. For the record, they spoke english just fine.
I still go out to fish, but I won't be gracing that range anytime soon.

well i'll have to take your word on banner road as i've never been out there myself. note, my co-workers "experience" there was atleast several years ago.

yes, lexington wma. guess i've been fairly lucky as most trips there have been good. have seen some skweeeerly ones there too though, and have left early because of it.

so any of you fellow locals have info on the duncan area at all? gonna be moved there by the end of the month.

For the record; H&H's rifle lanes are 35 yards - not 25 yards. Now, I'll admit that 35 yards isn't good for much more than initial zeroing of a scope. But, everyone's entitled to their opinion. How is it that your negative opinion of H&H is somehow more deserving of of publication than 1911Boy's positive opinion? Apparently anyone who has a positive opinion of H&H and states such on this board is an "H&H schill" by your account.



The FACT is that although H&H isn't perfect, they do provide a place to shoot at a fair price. Their showroom is nice, prices for guns are fair (not necessarily the best, but fair), the atmoshphere is friendly (not intimidating to new shooters), the people are helpful and most (not all) are knowledgeable.

Most importantly the owner of H&H, Miles Hall is a rabid supporter of your 2nd Ammendment rights and is THE source to which the media runs when they need a gun expert. Miles does a superb job of handling the media, which is no small task and which reflects well on our sport.

So, there you have it. Is H&H my first choice for shooting rifles? NO, but to brand someone a "schill" just because they support the place is a bit strong, don't you think?

Call me. I'm a member of Tri-City GC in Norman, and can take you as a guest as often as you like, and you can decide if you want to join up. There's also the Banner Road range out almost to El Reno - pretty fur piece from Del City. It's not bad...100 yards, $8 per day. That's all I'm aware of, besides OKCGC in Arcadia and the indoor range at H&H ( ). There may still be an indoor range at Bob Howards on Reno, west of May Ave, just south of the fairgrounds. I'll PM my phone #.

P.S. It will difficult for me to take you on the weekends until after hunting seasons, but we can go on a weekday late afternoon perhaps.

OK, on H&H..... Good place, Miles is good, salespeople are good. The ranges are what they are, but I absolutely abhore them because (1) they're not climate controlled - you burn up in summer, and freeze in the winter; summer is much worse, (2) they're not adequately ventilated IMO - yes they try to run air through there, but it's still pretty obvious to me that the fumes are thick - that can't possibly be good for you lungs, (3) it's too dark to use iron sights effectively, at least with these eyes. They need much more light. The pistol range is 25 yards, and the rifle range is 30 yards, not 35, if I'm not mistaken. I hang out at H&H a lot, but not on the ranges. The price for me of shooting there is way too high, given 1-3 above, and given the fact that I buy ammo and targets from them typically when I shoot, which are marked up considerably. I buy a lot of guns and gear from H&H however because their staff is friendly and knowledable, and prices are not too bad on most items.

You might be disappointed. Alot of my goodies had to go away for awhile. Ran up against some very hard times earlier this year. Now I have just the neccessary pieces. Of course what I consider neccessary may be different than others. Got bit by the specialty pistol bug and hardly shoot rifles anymore, but I have a fairly interesting and entertaining collection of long range pistols.
I've always thought about either Tri-City or OKC gun club, maybe I should look into it.
What ever happened to that Okla get together anyway. You guys forget to invite me?
Forgot to add, Bob Howard has been closed for awhile now, there's a tire shop in there now. Too bad, Bob's a great guy. Got my CCW there. Got my first Contender there. Jeez, even taught the wife how to shoot there.

OKC Gun Club has a long waiting list and you can only join in January.

Tri-City can be joined anytime. They have a very nice range just south of Norman. Great bunch of guys and two or three weekends a month there is some organized activity or other going on.
