I have been looking for a scope to put on my marlin .22 rifle, since the gun can make a 3 shot grouping at 50 yards that looks like 1 bullet of slightly larger caliber, i figure its worth upgrading from the 20 dollar 3-9x40 tasco currently on it. So what are some good higher magnification scopes for under a hundred dollars. Keep in mind this scope is only going to go on a bolt action 22 rifle. i have seen a couple tasco 6-24s for about 70 shipped, is that a good deal or should i keep looking?

6-24 x44 clear until 14x then blur sets in, but for 22lr I don't see how you going to use zoom pass 14, for 100 yards its more then enough, you can see bullet holes with no problem.

You may look into the 4-12x40 Pentax Gameseeker II. Sportsmansguide.com has the best deal on it, about $70 +shipping. It's made by Burris, whish is a reputable optics company. I have one on my Marlin xs7 right now and I am pretty happy with it. I am also pretty pleased so far with the Redfield 3-9x40 on my stevens .223. Leuplod just started making Redfield scopes to compete with themselves at a lower price range. Both brands are made by the same people on the same equipment and I think they have a 2-7x32 retailing for about $130.

Pentax hasnt been made by Burris for a while. They are made in china now. Not saying they are bad, just an FYI.

Centerpoint scopes from Walmart are of great quality for the money. You'd be surprised and they are only about $70.

I understand from reading forums and talking to a dealer that the quality of Tasco has been improving. I like Bushnell Banner scopes for a reasonably priced scope. They are bright and clear and stand up to.22 centerfire recoil for me.

So what is THR's oppinion of the NCstar series rifle scopes? specifically the 6-24 model. Also can anybody else give an oppinion of the tasco silver antler 6-24x42mm? Does it get blurry past 14x as DIM said?

I am going to come off hating here, but I haven't seen many sub $100 scopes with 24x magnification that were clear, crisp, or had good contrast. I like a good value as much as anyone. That said I don't think any of the high feature, basement price scopes are a good value. The Centerpoint line gets good reviews, but in my experience, it was run of the mill. The big feature Tasco and NCstar line are no better. I haven't had good luck with Bushnell's Banner line either. BSA has been rough at best. The China made Simmons I have seen have been bad as well.

I truly don't think you can get those features for near the price you are looking at and have an enjoyable scope. I have tried many of them looking for that diamond in the rough and it has yet to pop up. The closest I have seen is the Mueller APV. It is a bit better than most China made scopes I have seen, but still not up to par with the Japan made scopes. Pentax is another that seems to be a step ahead of the general China made market. If I were to spend money on a China made scope it would be from either Pentax or Mueller.

yeah.. i had one on my Saiga .308 and it worked well until stupid me dropped it like how many times..hahaha..

Quite clear all the way up to 16x with the right parallax setting..

If you can find a older simmons white tail, 6.5 x 20 x 50, used on ebay in that range, they are outstanding for the cost. may take awhile as most go for about 150,but worth the wait. And yes they are crisp on 20 power, with parrallax.

Considering their quality has been improving much as of late, and most of the bad reviews i saw were from 08 or earlier, i went with the tasco, It really seems that some of the bad reviews came from people too ignorant to adjust the parralax, they just turned it up to 20x and thought thay had a bad scope. and considering i ordered from wal mart, i can just return it if its a lemon.

Walmart Centerpoint -- 24X, with parallax adjustment. Did quite well for me on .22LR and also on .223. From there I went to a swift reliant premium 32X for three times the money to get from 24X to 32X....

I don't know how well it would hold up to dunking it in water (!) but for a target scope it was fine for me. Shot a 0.375 group (100 yards, 5 shots) with a .223 with one once (luck).

Good luck with the Tasco. Those reports weren't from ignorant people who can't adjust the front objective, but live and learn. Hope all goes well.
