A friend has a large safe but the way he has his rifles placed inside isn’t the best. He has them in a U shape wasting a lot of inner space. Shelves removed. He’s looking at circular racks to place in the center but do you fellas have any recommendations? Thank you & happy Labor Day!

Rotating storage is convenient, but won't increase capacity much if at all. It does make getting to long guns easier.
Over and over folks are recommending the rod systems and I found they really increased my storage capacity.

He may just go w/ the lazy Susan type device if it’ll fit? He doesn’t think the rods w/ work since his safe is 6 1/2’ tall. I suggested Gun socks but he wants to see them. Thank you guys?

Rifle rods or just sack’m up and label them well. I did the latter. It’s not much for admiring the collection, but it greatly increased the capacity of my safe. Better for the occasional earthquake we get locally as well. The silicon socks eliminate the guns dinging each other too when getting one out of the safe.

I've heard of people making rotary gun racks as a custom, one off, project to fit their safe. This is one of the few that I've seen commercialy available.

I am slowly building one to fit inside my safe, around some of the shelves already inside. I have looked high and low for a commercially made one that will fit but never found one. With parts I am less than $50 invested in the project.

I took all of the shelving out. I can get a lot more guns in there. Of course, it means having to pull all of the ones out of the front before I can get to the ones in the back. The ones used the least end up in the back. I can also get a lot more bolt rifles in there if the bolt is open.

I've heard of guys who alternate muzzle up and muzzle down in order to squeeze even more into a small space.

I remove the bolts completely.

A couple of decades ago I built my own dividers for my gunsafes:

And boltgun bolts reside on the door:

Some protruding parts on my M1s and M14s like to chew/ding wood, so ...:

Shortly after I completed the fundamentals of that project, I decided that, if I were doing it from the beginning, rather than using dividers I would capture them in-place from above with rods.

A few years later I came across the Rifle Rods product. Very nice!

As I said, if I were doing it again, I would use that concept ... and store the bolts on the door and cover protruding parts. ;)
