Moreso with shotguns as your eye is the "rear sight" and you should be shooting with both eyes open. If the shottie isn't on the same side as the dominant eye, the shot will be off because the dominant eye will track the bird.
Following your advice I went through a 250 round dryfiring session with my new 870 in order to begin ingraining it into my muscle memory. It just feels so much different holding the gun left-handedly and pulling the trigger with my left finger.
Really? There are people that can't close just one eye?
Anyways, it sounds like I shoot basically the same way you do. I'm right-handed, left-eye dominant. I shoot all guns right handed. I just close my left eye with rifles and with pistols I usually lean my head a little more so I'm aiming with the left eye but I also shoot them alot aiming with the right eye and the left eye closed.
I'm cross-dominant as well. Left-handed, right-eyed.
I still shoot as a lefty but I must admit that my dominant eye lid get very tired keeping it shut and keeping it open allows me only a 10% superimposed image on my left eye.
I will definately be training to shoot rightie...one of these days.
