Last week I took my Marlin Model 60 to the range. I had no issues with FTFs. I used the same ammo this week (Remington Golden Bullets and Federal Bulk) and had multiple FTFs.
It started with the Golden Bullets. I switched to Federal. That worked for a while. Then multiple FTFs with those. The dud casings had imprints where the firing pin hit the round. They looked similar to the fired casings but perhaps the indents on the fired casings were a bit more defined. I fed the rounds again and most fired but a few refused.
I will be going back to the range next weekend. I'm going to give it a thorough cleaning which I didn't do after last week. Last week I shot a lot of the Golden Bullets and I know those are dirty, but this is a model 60... a little dirt shouldnt be so much of a problem, should it?
The other diagnosis is the firing pin is damaged. I try not to dry fire much, but I it happened when I cleaned the action 2 weeks ago.
How do I tell if the firing pin is damaged?
Anyone had a similar problem or know of something else I should look for?
Thanks,
Matt
