I have just acquired a model 24 in 22LR/20 gauge. The upper barrel is grooved for a scope. Would a rimfire scope withstand the recoil of the shotgun barrel? Is there an option other than a rimfire scope?

sure, get a shotgun rated, or air rifle rated scope for it. problem solved.
i would think that a nice, fixed 4 power air rifle rated scope, would fit the bill fine for both bbls.

Yep, trick is finding the mount to fit the scope you chose. Think
there are some air rifle mounts that fit the dovetailed 22 barrel.
Almost any of the scopes will hold up. Might be tricky to use the
higher magnificationed scopes with wing shooting. A dot scope
might be a consideration.:)

I think that I may have asked the wrong question. The .22 barrel is grooved for scope mounts. It was my thought that mounts that would fit would only accept rimfire scopes. I also thought that a rimfire scope would be damaged by the recoil of firing the shotgun barrel.

A little research revealed mounts that will fit, I think, and that can be had for either 1" or 7/8" tubes. It appears that there are scopes other than rimfire scopes that can be mounted on the gun.

My eyes struggle with open sights. Maybe won't matter much with the shotgun.

Air rifle scopes are recoil resistant?
