Hi all, first post here, had a question for all of ya. I'm getting a Tikka Stainless lite in 22-250 in which I have a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster ready to be mounted. Which rings would you suggest for me to use - please note whether I need to buy bases or not. I know you shouldn't skimp on rings, but anything under $60 would be great.

Also, my brother is getting a CZ 452 American in 17 Mach 2. He has a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 ready to be mounted. Hear something about a dovetail base? - Not quite sure. Any ring/base suggestions there would be appreciated also. Thanks all for your help.

BTW I need to know the lowest rings we can install on both rifles if anybody would know. Bought some at gander mountain and ended it being too low.... thanks again...

First off, Tikka's already have the integral bases, correct? So you don't need a base.

Second, you need *specific* rings marked "Tikka", due to their silly proprietary size of their rails. [CZ, Tikka, and Ruger all have proprietary idiosyncrasies in their "weaver-style" rail systems, which require rings made specifically for them.]

Third, as a general matter, you want the lowest size that will work *with your chosen scope for the rifle*. That's a can of worms in and of itself as to how to guesstimate that based on objective and ocular bell sizes. But keep your receipt and exchange if you guess wrong.

Finally, and most importantly, I recommend that you do not get any rings that are made by the Millett people - they may not be marked Millett, but they will look just like the Millett "Angle Loc" rings, like this:

Angle locs stink.** They may be marked simply "Tikka". Suggest instead any steel rings made by Weaver, Leupold, Redfield, or Burris. Again, they must indicate they are for Tikkas, however.

"Dovetail" bases ordinarily refer informally to the narrower (and shallower) rails found on most rimfire rifles - they are about 3/8ths". So dovetail=synonymous with rimfire. These rails are integral to the rifle, and thus do not need to be purchased (except they're not integral on Ruger 10/22s).

**PM me if you want to know why.

Warne makes rings for the T3. Talley makes a one piece base and ring. Since the T3 is also drilled and tapped, you can mount many different manufacturers' bases and rings.

I mounted the Tikka factory rings on my 300 WSM, and after more than 500 rounds, the scope has not moved nor has there been any problems with the rings.
