River Rock Arms AR's anyone

I currently have 2 Bushmaster lowers, both with RR uppers, and they are outstanding. My rifles started out as complete Bushmasters but I liked the RR uppers better so I swapped them out.

Good luck, Mike

Not to rain on SteyrAUG pararade but I have heard very good things about SableCo http://www.sableco.net/ and Legal Transfers(there website sucks had to order over the phone) over at AR15.com I purchased an upper from SableCo and a complete lower from Legal Transfers today will let everyone know how it turned out.

While I'm certainly NOT talking about Sableco. be careful with net orders.

A LOT of guys I know end up with a RRA receiver and various DPMS, JT distributing parts, etc. Many people are selling RRA stuff cheaper than RRA sells it, and that is how they do it.

The big excuse in the biz is they are all spec parts anyway, what's the difference. Which is pretty much BS.

Buyer beware.

I gurantee all my rifles are 100% RRA and you can verify that with RRA.

In reference to the Bushy upper/RRA lower compatability problems . . . My cousin recently purchased this combo and had this problem. Fortunately the seller of the lower was a smith who took a file to the rear lug on the upper. About 15 minutes of radiusing resulted in the tightest fitting AR I have ever handled. The take down pin can still be pushed out with finger pressure. No Malfs with about 250 rnds so far. The RRA 2-stage trigger is very nice for distance work . . . Quality is excellent.

I know that Bushys are relatively easy to identify due to the dry film lube color inside of the upper and barrel markings. Does anyone know if Rock Rivers have and distinguishig marks to see if they are in fact Rock River products?

Two folks I have dealt with on the Internet for Rock River were Pete in NH and Sable Co. Pete sent me a M4 barrel that undoubtedly was a Rock River due to the pressed on faux FS. I'm not sure of anyone other than Knights and perhaps Wilson? that offers this item. I've also ordered two 9mm uppers from Donnie at Sable Co. As I understand it Donnie goes to RR direct for parts...as in visiting them to see what they had on hand. I rememember him telling me one day that he was making a trip up there to check on 9mm configs available and I asked him to pick me up a midlength.

I agree with SteyrAUG. Use caution when ordering from an internet source that is not established within the firearms community. Do a bit of research and ask around prior to ordering.

I like rock river arms and have been very pleased with them even if I only buy the complete match lowers and stripped uppers to have them turned into nice match rifles.

rock river is one company that allows you to pay for it and have it sent to a dealer and if your dealer has their ffl on file at rra's you are good to go.

I have a few local guys I go threw and they charge anywhere from $20 to $35 for doing the transaction.

have just ordered a few more lowers to put away.

here is what I come up with and it may be off by about $20 but its close.

rra's m4 entry tactical upper complete post ban $475
rra's post ban a2 complete lower $175
rra's complete post ban non-collaspsible car buttstock kit $65
dealer transfer $25
shipping $25
your cost this way= $765

if you do not want the phony un-collaspible buttstock you can get it down to $700 or sell the a2 buttstock and you should be able to get about $40 to $50 for it very easily.

buy both parts that means the upper and lower seperatly and you do not have to pay the excise tax and if you pay for it at your dealers cost there is no sales tax also.

if you had to buy it from someone , anyone on line or on one of the boards it would have to be shipped to your dealer anyway so why not cut out the middle man.

you ask whoooo what about the tax well have you never gone into a gun store or a show and seen new lowers for sale, YES you do and they are registered as a rifle or long gun.

do you really think if you walked into your local shop and bought a lower one week and then a upper the next week they would say whoooo you need to pay the excise tax NOOOOOOOO. they did not pay it and why should you.

we are here to help each other any way we can and I can offer you the same deal as the others but why when you can save a few bucks. good luck you will like the rra's.

p.s. now if you just wanted a standard rra's 20" rifle or something like it your price will go wayyyy down to the mid $500 range if you do it like above.

I purchased an upper from SableCo and a complete lower from Legal Transfers today will let everyone know how it turned out.

Pete in NH (legal transfers) is a good guy to do business with. He has great product, in some cases not obtainable anywhere else, at fair prices. No connection with him other than being a satisfied customer.

TimH any AR15 type rifle can take the 20-30 rd mags except for those abortions they have to buy in CA that have the mag well closed off. Some olympic recievers have had mag wells that were too tight in the past. No problem with RR, Colt, Bushmaster or the other well known brands.

Does anyone know if Rock Rivers have and distinguishig marks to see if they are in fact Rock River products?

As long as you order from RRA, you won't have a problem.

To me it's worth it to pay a little more to be assured of getting the real thing.

I'm putting the brakes on.

Enough of the veiled sales pitches and the ratings of retailers. You know what does and doesn't fly here.

There is a "Private and Retail Feedback" forum at the bottom of the THR main page. Please use it.

Sorry bout that, just showing what I built and offering to do the same for others.

No offence was intended.

Can you get high cap mags for RRA rifles?

Of course. RRA mag wells are standard AR15, just like Armalite, Colt, Bushy, Oly. No magic there.

Steve, hoping this next question flies, or at least has a high trajectory before crashing:

I'm interested in the RRA Varmint upper. Does anyone make a front sight block that would sit all the way at the front of the barrel, like an M1 or '03A3? I'd want the longest barrel (24? 26?) and the farthest sight post, just because of my eyes. Would this be approaching space-gun-ness?

Disclaimer: Not that I would or would not buy such a thing from anyone advertising or not advertising on this board or any other board. :)

I just want to put holes in paper, the holes very close, the paper far away.

Regards.

Might you be looking for something like this? The gas block is in the standard position except that it is a low profile type gas block. A front sight (LIPSKI) is attatched near the barrel end. This pic is from Fulton Armory, but you can get the sight from many places.

Obviously what I said was taken too far. I wan't trying to slam SteyAUG as he was not the only one. Just trying to keep the place relatively ad-free for you guys. Sleeping Dog, you could have made that another topic if you'd liked...you'd get more responses! Perhaps the best way to handle it is if you're looking for something, by all means ask. If a sales guy seels your post and wants to contact you, he can PM you. You, the original poster, should then post where you found it, if you wish.

Does this sound reasonable? Let me know!

TimH, of course! RRA and all other quality ARs will accept USGI mags of any capacity.
