I recently acquired a ROA and have had it out to shoot a couple of times. Mechanically, everything is great. But my groups are around 6" at 25 yds. I do much better than that with my Ruger Blackhawk in .45 which feels much like the ROA. While cleaning after this lastest trip, I noticed just how mirror bright the bore was. Then I notice that it seemed a little too bright like it had been polished. Measuring the bore by pushing through a lead ball, I find that the grooves are only .004 deep. Is this typical? Could this be why my groups are so loose? Or do I just need more practice?

Try a different load. I found RB's weren't too accurate at max or close to maximum loads. Home cast 200grs .45 ACP bullets did great however.

I remember the rifling on mine as being a twin of the one in a 1911, or of what I can see in my .45 Blackhawk.

The soft/pure lead used in B/p loads is soft enough to swage down and get a twist from even shallow rifling. As said above, try different loads, I know mine will hold 40gr, but will shoot much larger groups than 20gr, which seems to be mine's sweet spot for accuracy. I have 2 and one has a rough spot in the barrel about 1" back from the end of the barrel, apparently a squib that wasn't rempved for a time. I polished the area to make cleaning easier, as the rough spot was snagging the cleaning patches. even with the spot, the pistol groups as well as my other and I can get 2" groups at 10yds from a bench, but only with measured load matched weighed balls and consistant loading pressure.:)

Guess I just need more practice then. I have tried shooting with 20, 30, and 40 grains. Groups were pretty much the same from the bench at 25 yds. POI was just lower as I went down in powder which is what I expect.

Do you use cast or swaged balls? There could be voids(air/gas pockets) in your balls, causing accuracy problems.

Cast balls from TOTW. Weighing them, there isn't much difference so I don't think they are a problem.
