I received this in an email newsletter(www.bizarrenews.com)I subscribe to just this morning. It is a news story supposedly from the Detroit Free Press. If the story is true, then this is a black eye for all permitted carry folks, no matter which state you live in. The anti's are going to make hay out of this as they have been with the recent news of Florida's problems with oversight on Permit holders. This woman from Michigan, used her 9mm pistol to attempt to shoot out a tire of a vehicle that tailgated her on the highway as she was driving.

What are your comments fellow High Roaders. This woman obviously took the "Low Road".

---------- Road Rage: Woman Tired Of Tailgating -----------

DETROIT, A Michigan woman tired of being tailgated on her
morning commute pulled out a 9mm pistol and tried to shoot
the tire of the offending vehicle. "I'm tired of people
tailgating me," she told a Macomb County (Mich.) Sheriff's
Deputy after she was pulled over just off Interstate 94. The
Detroit Free Press said the 46-year-old driver of a Dodge Ram
pickup was riding the bumper of a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier.
The 39-year-old woman fired one shot when the pickup pulled
alongside her small car. She missed the tire. The woman was
arraigned Thursday in district court on three felony charges
including assault with a dangerous weapon and discharge of a
weapon from a vehicle. She had a permit for the handgun.

In Michigan you have to have a permit to merely buy a handgun and a separate one for CCW. It's not clear to me whether the permit they're referring to is for CCW or purchase.

This woman had no business carrying a gun. Anyone who lets their temper get the best of them should not carry. This is just another "see i told you so" for the anti's.:banghead:

I don't know if she wasa CCW holder or not. But there is someone who should have her weapons owning rights revoked for life. She is just darn lucky the article didn't include the following,

"The driver of the Dodge truck, a Michigan State Trooper returning from court duty on a priority call, returned fire from his service weapon, killing the driver of the car."

An armed society is a POLITE society.
She forgot that necessary advice.

Yes the idiot did have a permit to carry.

A Macomb Township female motorist is accused of pulling out a 9mm pistol and firing at another driver Wednesday on Interstate 94 in Harrison Township.

Bernadette Houghton Headd, 39, appeared for arraignment Thursday at 41B District Court on felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and a felony firearms charge, in the exchange with a 46-year-old New Baltimore man.

Officials said Headd, who has no prior felony record and has a current and valid permit to carry a concealed weapon in Macomb County, apparently got frustrated when the other driver tailgated her on westbound I-94, south of Hall Road.

"She indicated to us she just had it with other drivers getting right up behind her vehicle. There must have been others before," Capt. Anthony Wickersham explained. He said police later stopped Headd's car and found her in possession of the firearm.

It happened around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, police said, as both drivers were en route to work. Officials said Headd got on the freeway at Hall Road and was heading west in her 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier, when the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck pulled up close behind her.

At some point her vehicle came alongside his, police explained, and she drew her 9mm automatic pistol for which she carries a concealed weapons permit. She allegedly fired one shot in the direction of the pickup's tires, but officials believe she didn't hit anything.

The other driver pulled off the freeway at the Metropolitan Parkway exit and flagged down a Macomb County Sheriff's patrol car.

The deputy then caught up to Headd's car, found the weapon inside and made an arrest.

"We went out looking for the (gunshot) round along the roadway, but that was a morning with a lot of fog," Wickersham recalled.

When a person licensed to carry a gun is accused of using it to commit a crime, the permit is automatically suspended pending a revocation hearing while the criminal case is pending, explained William Harding, an assistant prosecutor and member of the county's gun board.

While police and prosecutors still must prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in court, Harding said the gun board doesn't have to hold such a high standard of evidence in deciding her gun privileges.

"We're obligated to suspend (the permit) from the moment we're notified of the allegation and schedule a hearing," Harding said. "Any felony conviction would automatically mean a lifetime removal from her permit. But not getting a felony conviction doesn't mean we would have to give (her permit) back."

If Headd is convicted as charged, she could face up to a total of six years in prison and an automatic revocation of her gun privileges. If the case is pleaded down to a misdemeanor, Harding said, it would result in either a 3-year revocation or 8-year revocation of the concealed weapons permit status depending on the crime.

"For any weapon-related misdemeanor, it would in all likelihood be the 8-year situation," he said.

Headd awaits a preliminary examination March 8, and remains jailed in lieu of a $50,000 cash/surety bond. She has requested a court-appointed attorney to defend her against the charges.

I've had a CCW permit for 16 years. When I got home from the sandbox, I found I got angrier more easily, and for things I would have otherwise blown off.

I did the responsible thing, and took a few months off from carrying.
It took a while to adjust to not having a weapon 24/7, but an 'unreasonal anger response' while armed was out of the question.
My guns were, of course, available at home. I wasn't full-blown PTSD, I just wanted to be responsible and safe.

I'm still getting used to the mindset of 'pistol=clothing=wristwatch'.
It's mostly a comfort issue right now. I may have to spend some money on quality leather soon.

I'd recommend the same to anyone who had a little too much 'drama' in their life right now.

GOOD FOR YOU! It takes a big man to do and realize what you diid - I for one thank you for your service AND responsible decision!

The media usually uses incorrect terminology and uses proper terminology incorrectly. I don't know if we will ever get an update story that clarifies this. Its funny how they always insert little details like "9mm" which mean absolutely nothing to the general public. Maybe she had a Glock revolver.
