I know I have'nt posted in quite awhile, but I am considering a road trip from my home in northern Minnesota to Alaska, via the Trans-Canadian/Alaskan highway. Anyway, I was thinking of taking either my old Winchester 30-30 carbine or my Marlin .44 mag carbine for security reasons, since I know Canada does'nt allow handguns. Any thoughts?
Secondly, does anyone know what type of restrictions or procedures Canada would have concerning my bringing a rifle into the country? Thanks.

I'd stay away from anything that even reminds border guards of a handgun, and that would include a pistol-caliber carbine.

As much as I love Marlin 1894 carbines, I'd take a 30-30.
