Hi all. My daughter and I are planning a road trip this summer to Neosho and Springfield Mo to touch base with some long lost relatives I haven't seen for some time and to relive a little of my past youth. My husband Leatherneck says I need to check on which states permit concealed carry. It looks like a straight shot from Virginia throught Kentucky and then Missouri. We may want to go to Claremore OK as well. Any suggestions?

Oklahoma originally had a lousy reciprocity provision, which is why I have a Florida non-resident permit, but we recently amended it to recognize all permits issued by a state, so you should be good to go. If stopped you are required to tell the officer you have a permit. Stay out of bars and public buildings.

In Claremore don't miss the J.M. Davis Gun Museum. It's right on the main highway through town. You might also enjoy a trip to the Swan dairy, which is right by the interstate exit at Claremore. Truly excellent cheeses.

If you need a place to shoot as you pass through, The Firing Line just east of Wyandotte, Oklahoma on highway 60 (just west of Seneca and Neosho) is a good range that rents full autos. I shoot in a 6:30 Monday night pistol league that includes many shooters from Neosho and Joplin. We're a friendly bunch, and this would give you a chance to find some local shooters to talk to. Right now we're shooting rimfire pistols. We alternate between rimfire and centerfire.

If you're near Claremore on a weekend you can find IDPA and IPSC info at www.tulsashooters.com.

Actually, your situation is exactly why MO has recently passed (kinda) CCW.

Out of state travelers (CCW or not) could pass through MO with a weapon 'concealed' in the car. Residents could not. So the lawmakers reworded the law to allow residents to also carry concealed weapons in cars, and while they were at it, threw in some wording to allow carrying a concealed weapon on one's person.

You should be fine if you have permits, they are supposed to be recognized here now.
