hi guys, a friend needs some cash and is selling his Rock River Arms/ Armory ?? Ar-15. He said he's gonna give 3-4 mags and looking for around $800.00. Cash is tight right now but he said he could give me payment plans :D (as long as wife doesn't know about said plans :uhoh:)

Anyway would that be a good deal, or would it be better to get a BNIB Ar from a gun shop. Last time i check, S&W M&P was about $800.00 range also (pre November).

one thing is that this guy IS a shooter but not much of a "cleaner". He probably only cleans after his gunS have been shot around X number of rounds. I shot with him occasionally and i really can see the conditions of his guns.

Also when shooting his AR, the bolt cycle felt really sluggish. I NEVER shot an AR before but that's the impression that i got; the way the bolt cycles felt weird.

Thanks in advance.

There's not much to go wrong with it and Rock River is one of the better companies out there. You had better buy it.

Rock River is good.
Sluggish?
Ar's are meant to be shot "wet" with plenty of oil on the bolt/carrier.
They also need good full power ammo.
Clean and oil properly, use good mags (GI type or P-mags), and good ammo.

These three things will cure about 95% of most AR problems

$800 is what they ran for new before the election. Its a good price now and with the mags may not have been a terrible price before. They are good rifles and shoot very well. The triggers are very nice. If I could have found an RRA I would have bought it.

i don't remember much but i think it has a carry handle, because we were using his scope but he didn't screw it right and it would shoot 4" high at 50 yds and that's the lowest it would go (probably cheap scope too - Leapers??), so we had to use the open sights. I think the barrel is carbine length and has collapsible stock.
Thanks guys. I might jump on this one. Now buttering up the wife IS the question :)

Don't butter up the wife. Just remember the most important rule. It's easier to ask for forgiveness and it is permission.

I agree. Plus, getting a rifle means far more than any petty argument your wife likely has against it.

Really, you said you did not want me to buy any more for a while? Was I listening? (smack) :D

Still worth it.
