Rockcastle shooting center KY

yeah, the Mammoth Sniper Challenge is held there, as are several very large (up to 500 people) 3gun matches and some international shotgun comps.

the facility is decent. basically an old hotel with a small restaurant. golf course and just a whole bunch of land. afaik, their "range" for rifles is just the natural terrain of about 1000 acres. i've been there half a dozen times and never seen a berm or a firing point labeled as such. or any covered place to shoot.

i have no idea. over the course of my visits i've shot at just about every field they have. many of them allow shots past 1000 yards. i never saw any field called the "300 yard 'range'" ???

why?

Well not sure of the longer range, would like to try that sometime. However, the 50 – 300 yard range was a joke. It was a rickety table on an old hill side road. That was it. Barely enough place to put gear and shoot. There was nothing else around. You follow a guy into the woods; he shows you where to shoot and leaves. Not what I was expecting for $10.00 per hour, per person for a place called a “shooting center”. Not to mention my son and I drove there 1 1/2 hour each way. We were VERY dissapointed.

Maybe the longer range will be better?

well, you're lucky you got a table. we bring shooting mats and lay on the ground when we go.

if you want something that looks more like a public shooting range, you should go check out ORSA. they have traditional concrete benches on their 200 yrd benchrest range, plus a 1000 yrd range. but it's paper only. Membership is about $120/yr and you can go all day every day if you want.

500 Yard at Providence Ky.

Rex McKinney Western Kentucky.
Tri County Gun Club - Providence KY just finished a 500 range. I pretty sure that right now it is members only but this is new to us we have a lot to work out.
Working on plans to openup for some matches this summer. I'll let you know the schedule as soo as I know. Rex McKinney

Rockcastle is continuing to grow, and as of now is offering more than any range around that part of ky. I have never shot at the "300" range but I have shot thunder valley over a dozen times and you really couldn't ask for a better natural terrain long range practice field.
