Does anyone have experience with a Hakim and the steel cased Romanian 8mm Mauser that is available? 170 gr bullet, berdan primed, mfg in 2013, green primer/bullet sealant, and non-corrosive.

I've searched the forums and haven't found a ton of info.

Thanks.

I use Romanian surplus in all my 8mm guns as my go to surplus round.. Only issue with the Semi autos is the round is corrosive and you must of course clean it all out but that is a given.

I have shot Romanian surplus out of a Hakim with no issues.

I have found some information on other boards that would indicate the more recent production 8mm out of Romania can be problematic in both bolt and semi-auto rifles. Most seem to say the 70's production Romanian in the spam cans is good. I'm guessing the positive experiences reported here are with the older stuff.

Yeah, when I said surplus, I meant the older 70s Romanian stuff..

Now to that Newer Romanian, We had some (about 3 years ago) It was made with the cartridge shoulder a hair longer then most of the older stuff, and the rounds would not seat in the chamber correctly. But I know a guy who picked up the some of newer romanian recently and liked it..

I was going to try some, but the newer stuff seems to have dried up. So when they can ship some more over here I will be testing them out..

And like you I am thinking, that newer stuff is non corrosive and would be great for semi.. But I am waiting to do that final test :)..

Have never fired a Hakim, but IME the Romy ammo kicks much less than most other 8mm rounds. Very pleasant out of a Mauser.

ETA: just did some Google-fu. The Romy ammo I shot was a "light ball" 150 gr load. Your standard WWII era surplus 8mm load is 196 gr. The rounds you're looking at split the difference at 170 gr. I knew the stuff I shot was "light ball", but I assumed that light meant 170 and not 150.

So this one might kick a bit, but it should still be less than your average 196 gr load.

I sold my Hakim a few years ago. Not before it gobbled up a case of that nasty , hot Pakistani ammo . I had to buy the gas key adjusting tool for the rifle because that stuff was crazy hot, but if you turned the gas down, that big Hakim smash em bolt handled it OK. I had it mounted upside down, MG13 25 round stick mag up :) in a home made pintle mount we stuck on a ranch bound hunting jeep for the 90s . The idea was to cruise the private ranch roads, all 100 miles of them, with the thing shooting at the huge herds of Salinas Valley pigs . We shot a few , but had fun blasting 1340 + rounds out of it . Those Hakims are strong ! I also had the Hakim bayonet and a scope mount for it. I cleaned up the old dog , complete with Hebrew white painted capture markings and sold the rig for $600 after I had my fun :)

yes MG 13 mags fit with minor file work !

I have debated and debated getting one of those mg 13 mags and doing that.. That darn Halim is just not my favorite to shoot.. I really should do that..

When that ammo hit the market a few years ago the cases were out of spec. The importer got things straight with the manufactur and the stuff that is coming in now is supposed to be good to go.

I had heard also that the problem was fixed.. but would like to make sure before getting some.
