How can I tell if my Romanian ak74 can get a new muzzle brake put on it? Also how do I know what stocks it can use?

I read that some receivers were cut and it is hard to use different stocks.

Also what is the "Y" stamp for on the left side of the receiver under the scope mount?

Thanks

Concerning muzzle brakes, if it has a threaded muzzle, and is not welded, you should be able to switch out muzzle brakes pretty easily. I doubt that even century would feel the need to cut a stamped steel AK receiver. Unless some weird stuff was done to this rifle, any stock set for a stamped receiver should be OK. However, some Romanian stocks with poor fit might need to be sanded down to fit comfortably in to the receiver. The stamped Y i think is the marking to show where a full auto pin would go.

It looks threaded but with a little weld on the bottom of it.

Can I dremel/grind the bottom off then thread it off and put a new one on, or will that ruin the barrel?

The Draco pistols come the same way. Just don't grind anything other than the weld and you should be g2g.

I ground off the small weld and there weren't any threads under the barrel nut! What are my options now for putting on a correct flash hider/compensator?

You'll need to measure your barrel dimensions and see if there is enough meat on it to thread it 14x1LH (the standard AK thread pitch) or not.

if "not", then you can thread it ½x28 (AR15 pitch) and utilize any of the thousands of muzzle attachments for the AR15 platform.

I don't know how to thread a barrel...you need taps and a die, correct?
