I applaud Mr. Barret for his tenacity but this is largly symbolic.
Law enforcement does not need to take 1,000 yard shots.

What about disabling vehicles?
Or shooting at hardened targets?

Anti-material biznitches!

I wish I had the money for a Barrett. I've never really been interested in the 50 but that little carbine looks nice.

I remember hearing about Mr Barrett granting an interview to "60 Minutes", and really letting Mike Wallace or whoever have it. I'd love to see the actual interview, anyone know if it's available anywhere? I can't access anything worth watching at work.............:cuss:

Law enforcement does not need to take 1,000 yard shots. I doubt that the state Hawaii is too upset. Kind of like if Polaris decided not to sell any more snowmobiles to Hawaii. They don't have much use for those either.
The US military is Barrets main customer, that and private sales to individuals. Not state police departments.

Actually, I understand HPD has several of Barrett's rifles. I don't know if the Chief was ticked at the letter, but I know of more than a few of the "regular" officers that got a chuckle out of it....

I don't doubt that given an imaginary federal ban on civilian ownership of .50 BMG rifles, Mr. Barett would stop all sales to the military as well.

He'd go about making other firearms, or similar firearms which are legal due to the law being written by idiots (like the whole California .50 TDC or whatever it is).

I wisht he man were president, not because of his view on firearms, but because of his moral character.

Kudos to Mr. Barrett.:D We need more champions like him if we are to win the battle for our rights once and for all!

I heard he sent the chief a letter telling him to come pick up his rifle because he wasn't going to fix it and he wasn't going to spend his money to ship it back. Anyone verify this?
I was under the impression he just sent it back unserviced but am not sure. They used to have the story on the barrett website but don't see it there now. Here's the letter:

He's definitely a man of principle and I applaud him. Even if you can't afford a rifle, they sell hats and apparel. It's good to support these guys who aren't afraid to stand up and stomp on a few toes.

If you follow the link noting there was an update to the above link, it sates:

It saddened me to have to tell members of the LAPD SWAT team that they would have to send someone for their rifle, because I refused to assist anyone or any organization that is in violation of the United States Constitution. In turn, the department arranged to pick up their un-serviced rifle.

Sounds like he refused to send it back and that LAPD arranged a pick up of some type.

Not only is he the man..... he is THE MAN!!!

I will be buying something ASAP from Barrett just to say, "Thank you for having the {intestinal fortitude} to stand up for our rights."

As far as I'm concerned, a true patriot like Mr. Barrett deserves my money.

STI has not gone unnoticed either. I am in the market for a 1911, STI's sizeable {intestinal fortitude} have certainly given their products a boost in my mind.

In the same vein, if Polaris decides to ban sales of all their products to Hawaii, including their Personal Water Craft . . . guess how happy Hawaiins would then be.

As the good mr Barrett said, " . . .if you ban my .50cal rifle, I will not sell ANY of my products to your state".

And. . . I have read the review on the Barrett Carbine in a magazine recently and am really impressed by it quality. I am seriously considering investing in this gun, both because I like the quality and to also support a business with an owner with cojones.

Not to drift this thread, but according to the CBS news story from '05, the Branch Davidians FIRED a .50 BMG rifle at the feds, leading them to bring in more heavy artillery, tanks and such. I've long known the possession of the 50 was listed as one of the reasons for the raid, but I've never heard anyone claim it was fired at the Feds. Anybody know?

I've been thinking about another EBR, didn't know Barrett made one, but I'm certainly gonna check into it! I think Ronnie Barrett has earned our support any way we can give it!

It's in dispute and probably never will be settled.See this lifted from Wiki article on the Waco seige:

Aftermath
Various gun-control groups, such as Handgun Control Incorporated and the Violence Policy Center have claimed that the Branch Davidans had used .50 caliber rifles and that therefore these types of firearms should be banned. Nevertheless, the evidence of this is unclear; the US Treasury Department, in a memorandum to the press dated July 13, 1995 titled "Weapons Possessed by the Branch Davidians", provided an inventory of all the firearms and firearm-related items that were recovered from the Branch Davidian's compound, which claims no .50 rifles or machine guns were recovered, only 4 .50 magazines, 3 .50 magazine springs and .50 belt links. Several years later, the General Accounting Office in response to a request from Henry Waxman released a briefing paper titled, "Criminal Activity Associated with .50 Caliber Semiautomatic Rifles" which claims that the Branch Davidians did have access to and used .50 rifles. The GAO's claim is based on an unsourced BATF claim that the Branch Davidians fired on the BATF with a .50 rifle. There has not been a reconciliation between the Treasury Department's account and the GAO's.

What did Chief Boisse Correa do? I can't open the link.

I am not sure what link you are referring to, but as someone who was closely involved in the efforts to kill the proposed .50 cal ban in Hawaii, I don't think I ever heard any thing about Mr. Barrett's letter in the popular media here. Nor did I ever hear a rebuttal to the letter from Chief Correa, or anyone in the police department.
