Rossi .357

There's a Rossi .357 in a local store for $299, new. 4" barrel, adjustable sights, finger groove rubber grips, blue finish. (Sorry, can't tell you more about it.)

How are the Rossi .357s? Is $299 a good deal on one?

I assume that it's new.
If not, it wouldn't be $300.00
Rossi is actually made by taurus.
They are taurus's value line, and .357 is as hot as they get.
I'd lump them in with charter 2000, but with a better warranty.

You know, Taurus isn't exactly a rich man's gun. I'm suprised that they have a "value" line. Huh.

I have a Rossi 972 in 6" and its infinitely better than a charter 2000 They arent even close! Thats what i paid for mine by the way.Its a nice revolver.

I've got 2 Rossi 357's One was imported by interarms I think it's a 971 with a 4 inch barrell. The other is a 6 shot 2 inch barrrell snubnosed 357 made by Braztech (Taurus). Both of them work real well. I had the hammer bobed on the snub nose along with installing a custom spring kit. The other I had a trigger job & custom spring kit installed-good guns.

have had a Rossi 971, stainless snubby for about five years. it had a good action, both sa/da. then it got an action job by my favorite gunsmith. my K19 without an action job wont touch it for slick. is accurate, for a snubbie, and reliable thru a few thousand rounds.

shot a friends 6" 971. is not as accurate as the K19.

my gunsmith stated he can do more for a Rossi than he can a Taurus.

last week i got a Colt Trooper, used, that appears new. slick and accurate. paid 320 out the door.

would i buy a new Rossi? only if the price was very right. would prefer a used SnW in the same range give or take a buck or two.

my experience with no personal recommendation.

Before you buy it, dry fire it in very rapid double action mode and check to see if the cylinder locks in, aligned with the barrel and you cannot rotate the cylinder. I carried a 462 for a couple of years as a defensive weapon and never really tried the DA in a rapid fire scenario. Finally did. The cylinder got out of time repeatedly. In some cases, the pin strike to the primer was very much off center, in other cases, the timing got off sufficiently to jam the weapon. Sent it back to Braztech twice. They didn't fix it either time. I'm taking it to the county seat next month when I renew my concealed carry permit and have the sherrif's office have it destroyed (get's it out of my name, will have a receipt for it).

This, from a guy that has hi-points, and LIKES them.
Just kidding.
FYI, I lump taurus, rossi, and charter2000 together.
I have had bad luck with all three.
Consistantly.
But I'm not dogging them out, I just think they are about $100 or so overpriced.
Get a used smith, don't shop for headaches.

"Get a used Smith". I hear this a lot.

Problem is, there aren't always used Smiths that I want to buy. It was pure luck that I found the 6" .41 Mag, but remember, I was LOOKING for a 4" .357...

I heard that alot also. "Buy a used Smith & Wesson". I am glad that I did not listen. I have been a Rossi fan for about 7 yrs now. I had a S&W but Traded it in for the Rossi Cyclops 357mag. which is a very accurate handgun. I have no regrets whatsoever. I really dont know what Rossi handguns are going for new these days. But in the past,I havent paid over $250 for any of mine.

Hi, I just recently purchased a Rossi M971 for $190 OTD at a local Pawn shop . Ran 50 rounds of winclean .38's and 25 rounds or so of .357's . Cycled fine ,no recoil problems . This weapon was imported by Interarms . Looked at the Used S&W ....Forget it . Only ones less than $300 were pretty beat up ! Didn't buy this 1 for it 's down the road value so Rossi works for Me .
